Responsibilities
This position will serve as a senior member of the Performance Faculty, teaching classes in Directing, Acting, Theatre Speech, Theatre Management, Theatre History and/or others as qualified. This position will also serve the Department of Theatre and Dance as its Managing Director and will develop and coordinate production budgets, productions schedules, box office, front of house activities and fundraising. Finally, this person will be expected to direct at least one main stage production per year.
  • A typical faculty workload responsibility may include up to twelve (12) credits per semester of instruction.
  • The successful candidate may need to teach in other areas as assigned and qualified, such as Directing, Acting, Theatre Speech, Theatre Management, Theatre History and/or others as qualified.
  • The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues in curriculum design, instruction and evaluation, conduct research productively and mentor students in research, help create innovative strategies for student recruitment, retention, and completion, and may be expected to develop external grant funding opportunities.
  • All faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (see Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).


Required Qualifications
  • MFA or PhD in Theatre Arts or relevant area. (Degree must be conferred on an official transcript by date of appointment.)
  • Demonstrated ability to teach on the College or University level.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment.
  • Demonstrated effective written, oral communication and/or presentation skills.
  • Five (5) years collegiate teaching experience.
  • Three (3) years of Theatre Management experience.
  • Five (5) years of Theatre Production experience.
  • Experience with computerized box office systems.
  • Experience with complex budgeting systems.
  • Fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated training and experience appropriate to teach applied courses at the graduate level.
  • Experience advising and mentoring students.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with faculty and staff in a collegial and cooperative manner.
  • Demonstrated commitment to department, college, university, discipline and community service.
  • Demonstrated experience in accreditation, program review, and/or assessment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaborative and creatively on a production team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development.
  • Willingness to contribute to the Department's strong participation and involvement with the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
  • Creative or scholarly interests that will advance the mission and goals of the Theatre and Dance Department at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
  • Demonstrated ability to be strongly involved in the creative processes of the department, including the directing of productions.
