Part Time Engineering Student Project Assistant: We are seeking motivated BHCC students who are enrolled in any engineering, computer science, or physics programs. The job is focused on educational development in quantum technology. Students will have the opportunity to work with 3D printers, laser cutters, and 3D scanners to develop skills that are essential in the engineering design and fabrication field which are also rewarded skills in optics and quantum technology. Educational packages will be provided.



Responsibilities:



  • Be present at BHCC main campus 2 or 3 days a week for approximately 5 hours on each day. (Maximum hours per week is 18 hours.)
  • Assist the faculty with 3D printers, laser cutters, and 3D scanners to design and fabricate products for educational purposes.
  • Work with electronic boards such as Arduino or Raspberry Pi.
  • Write technical reports and develop instructions for instruments.
  • Be willing to independently learn Python programming, 3D modeling, photo editing, and artificial intelligence.
  • Work independently and as part of a team to complete projects.
  • Participate in training and professional development activities as needed.
  • Assisting faculty to establish lab safety protocols in the engineering lab rooms.
  • Assisting faculty in setting up student quantum events and coordination with other departments and companies if needed.
  • Follow the instructions of BHCC faculty and lab technicians.


Job Requirements:

BHCC STEM Student with:



  • Coursework in Physics, Engineering, and Computer Science (including introductory courses) will be considered as qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an engineering, computer science, or physics program at BHCC.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with Adobe products is highly desired but not required.
  • Strong interest in modern physics and quantum technology.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and technologies independently.
  • Strong written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and coordinate with faculty and staff at BHCC.

Position Details:



Duration: Spring 2024 into Summer 2024-Project work ongoing beginning April 16, 2024 to August 31, 2024

Schedule: 2 or 3 days a week, approximately 5 hours per day but no more than 18 hours per week.

Compensation: $18.5 per hour, up to 18 hours per week.

Equipment and supplies: 3D printer, laser cutter, 3D scanner, and software licenses will be provided.
