PT Certified American Sign Language Interpreter (Temporary) (Short-Term)

Required Qualifications:
The position requires graduation from an Interpreter Training Program (ITP) or equivalent or Associate Degree in American Sign Language, Interpreting, or a related field; AND 3 years experience interpreting for deaf, deaf-blind and hard of hearing individuals; AND possession of any of the following national certifications: Registry of Interpreters for Deaf (RID), National Interpreter Certification (NIC); Certificate of Interpretation (CI) and Certificate of Transliteration (CT).

Salary/Fringe Benefits:
The hourly range is $20.25/hr to $42.58/hr depending on expertise and certification.

Conditions of Employment:
This is a short-term hourly temporary position. Hours of employment will vary, but not to exceed 25 hours per week and 175 days per year. Schedule to be determined by the hiring department. This position will require flexible availability; able to work evenings or weekend.

This position posting is to create a pool of qualified applicants to be used when there is a departmental need.

If interpreter is not certified, she/he will have to take an evaluation. Interpreter evaluation will be video taped. Later, the supervisor will review the tape and determine a level. Interpreters will be notified of the results within 3 weeks from time of evaluation.

ALL interpreters are expected to practice the RID Professional Code of Conduct, whether certified or not. Please know the RID tenants and consult with supervisor when needed.

Individual who is offered employment shall be required to obtain fingerprints for a criminal history clearance through the State Department of Justice, produce an original social security card, and submit negative TB test results (must be within the past four years or within the last 60 days if not previously employed in a school district in California) before employment.

Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per Government Codes 3100-3109.
