Maintenance Specialist - Electrician
Allan Hancock College is accepting applications for a full-time, 37-hour per week, 12 month position supporting the Facilities Department and reporting to the Director, Facilities. The incumbent performs highly skilled work in he repair, alteration, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment both new and existing electrical equipment, systems, and components. The desired start date is March 2019. The successful candidate must pass a Department of Justice clearance and a pre-employment health and physical before the start date.

Work Schedule:
Monday - Thursday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. and Friday, 6:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
The starting salary is $4,408 per month (range 29, $4,408 to $5,357 per month on the classified bargaining unit salary schedule).
Benefits include medical, dental, life, vision (employee only), salary protection insurance, and eligibility for PERS retirement.

MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST- ELECTRICIAN

DEFINITION:
Under direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent performs highly skilled work in the repair, alteration, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment both new and existing electrical equipment, systems and components; and values and promotes the mission and vision of the college.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:
Working with minimal supervision, incumbents in this class are assigned a variety of electrician duties that require a high level of technical knowledge, troubleshooting skills, ability, and knowledge in the electrician trade as well as semi-skilled and skilled tasks in other maintenance trades. The incumbent is required to report all safety, sanitary, and fire hazards when recognized or encountered in the course of their work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Inspects, troubleshoots, repairs, installs, tests, services, and maintains both 3-phase and single-phase electrical systems up to 480 V with knowledge of high voltage systems.
2. Assists other trades and outside vendors or contractors in evaluating and resolving electrical related problems and works with supervisor to provide blueprints and system knowledge as needed;
3. Performs demolition as assigned or required to complete assignments.
4. Installs interior and exterior conduit and wiring for new or remodeled buildings, new or existing equipment, lighting, machinery, HVAC systems and appliances to meet plans or equipment specifications and requirements.
5. Estimates labor and material costs for assigned tasks, projects, and work orders when requested or required.
6. Insures electrical components and parts on all systems and equipment are safe, properly marked and identified, and operational. Replace parts as needed and approved.
7. Assembles, repairs, troubleshoots, programs, schedules, installs, and makes repairs to lighting fixtures, field lighting and time clock systems.
8. Evaluates efficiency and makes recommendations on improvements or replacement of the lighting and electrical system.
9. Uses a computer to obtain, monitor, and update work assignments, interact with clients and suppliers, and seek technical support as needed.
10. Maintains records of work performed and submits reports.
11. Schedules and performs emergency generator testing and maintains necessary and required operation and maintenance records.
12. Performs other related functions as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:

Tools, materials, methods and terminology used in the electrical trade;
Standard practices, materials and methods of the electrical trade;
Design, construction, installation and maintenance of electrical apparatus and equipment together with journeyman level skill in performing electrical installation and repair work;
Current and applicable electrical codes;
General construction and appropriate safety precautions and procedures;
Computer skills to allow for data entry, record keeping, and research as it pertains to electrical work, campus communication, and technical support.

Demonstrated Ability to:
Perform journeyman level skilled electrical work;
Perform and learn to perform a wide range of general maintenance and repair work in other trades not requiring journeyman skill;
Use proper hand tools, power tools, and equipment in diagnosing and making electrical repairs skillfully;
Plan and lay out electrical work including estimating labor and material costs;
Evaluate lighting and electrical systems and make recommendations for improved efficiency and energy savings using resources available;
Work from shop drawings, sketches, wiring schematics, electrical blueprints, plans, and specifications;
Read and interpret technical manuals related to electrical repair and installation;
Operate light to heavy equipment including a truck, forklift, man lift, and scissor lift observing legal and defensive driving practices;
Perform shop math;
Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
Use harnesses and other safety equipment.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED or higher, completion of electrician apprenticeship and three years of working at a journeyman level electrician; and/or equivalent.

Licenses and Certificates Required:
Possession of a valid California driver's license and the ability to qualify for district vehicle insurance coverage;
Fork lift operator' certificate, within first year of employment;
Man lift operator certificate, within first year of employment.

Working Conditions:
Duties are performed indoors and outdoors.
Work requires standing and walking for prolonged periods.
The incumbent will experience interruptions while performing normal duties during the regular workday.
Must be able to perform work on high ladders, man lifts, scissor lifts, and scaffolding.
May be required to respond or assist with campus emergencies either during normal working or after normal working hours.
May be required to perform work in inclement weather conditions.

Physical Demands:
Strength: Medium work including lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling 75 pounds maximum with frequent lifting, pushing and/or carrying of objects weighing up 50 pounds.

Special Qualification:
A sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students and to staff and students with disabilities.
