FT Faculty, Engineering Science

MCCC/MTA unit position

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA collective bargaining agreement. Position is subject to funding availability. Full-time employees have opportunities to teach for extra pay in the fall, spring, and summer terms with pay determined by the collective bargaining agreement. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

This position is a full-time, tenure track faculty position in the Engineering & Industrial Technology Department which offers transfer and career degree/certificate programs in Engineering Science, Pre-Engineering and Computer Aided Design. The faculty member in this position will participate in the teaching, effective delivery and further development and enhancement of departmental offerings with particular emphasis on the Engineering Science, Pre-engineering and Physics curricula.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teach courses in one of more of the following areas: Statics, Strength of Materials, Dynamics, Material Science, Thermodynamics and/or Physics as assigned in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  2. Utilize effective teaching strategies to maximize student retention and success, develop critical thinking skills, and support a learner-centered environment.
  3. Participate in the development, implementation and assessment of pedagogical methods that facilitate student understanding and retention of advanced manufacturing and engineering technology-related concepts.
  4. Participate in the development and effective delivery of new courses (in seat, online and hybrid) as well as in the evaluation and on-going revision of current curricula via program review.
  5. Assist in determining appropriate student learning outcomes for various Engineering and Physics courses and programs. Actively participate in the assessment of student learning outcomes at all levels.
  6. Observe all college and departmental computer laboratory requirements, and provide a safe and appropriate lecture and laboratory experience for all students.
  7. Work collaboratively with faculty and staff from other departments and disciplines.
  8. Provide academic advisement to traditional and nontraditional students.
  9. Participate in appropriate college service activities (e.g. committee membership, development of/enhancement to courses/programs and/or resources, program review, recruitment and retention activities).
  10. Participate in professional development opportunities to maintain expertise and infuse new methodologies into departmental offerings.
  11. Participate in the coordination of departmental courses and initiatives, as needed.
  12. Travel between campuses as needed to fulfill workload or contractual requirements
  13. Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement



Requirements:


  • Master's Degree Engineering or closely related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of classical Physics and the fundamentals of Mechanics, Material Science and Thermodynamics, and a strong understanding of industrial applications as well as current trends.
  • Evidence of effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and interpersonal connection with a student population that is highly diverse in academic preparation, cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds as well as physical and learning differences.
  • Candidates must be available to teach in-person at our campuses in Lynn and Danvers, MA.
  • Commitment to the mission of the community college, to teaching excellence, and to
  • continuous improvement of high standards for student learning.
  • Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or a National background check as a condition of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering.
  • Teaching experience especially in higher education. Community college experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in teaching mechanical Physics, Statics, Dynamics and other related technology and engineering courses.
  • Experience with the integration of technology, OER, student-oriented software, and multimedia formats in the course development and delivery.
  • Experience in online and/or hybrid course development and teaching.
  • Knowledge and experience with creative and innovative instructional techniques to facilitate the student learning process.
