University Relations seeks outstanding candidates for Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. This position reports to the Associate Vice President of Principal Gifts and Corporate & Foundation Relations.

POSITION PURPOSE

The Executive Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations will lead a team of corporate and foundation relations officers responsible for coordinating activity, developing strategies, building relationships, and raising funds from foundations for various initiatives and departments across the university to support its mission and strategic priorities. Responsibilities include developing and executing a comprehensive fundraising vision and strategy that sustains and grows the University's foundation and corporate relationships.

This high-profile leadership role requires a professional with excellent verbal and written communication, an entrepreneurial thinker, and a problem solver. He/she must possess strong relationship management skills and oversee the day-to-day operations of the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Familiarity working with faculty, top corporate and foundation executives, and community leaders desired. Applicants should be accustomed to and comfortable with receiving and applying feedback and advice to improve performance. Additionally, applicants should be able to demonstrate a history of success in their prior field/position and an ability to lead and manage a team to successful achievement of goals.

This position is eligible for a flexible work schedule: hybrid - work from office and home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Specifically, the Executive Director will:
  • Oversee the Corporate and Foundation Relations fundraising team to increase fundraising performance in support of priority initiatives set forth by university leadership.
  • Develops, implement and manage a comprehensive strategic development plan focused on expanding and enhancing foundation and corporate relationships.
  • Works closely with university administrators, faculty, and other development personnel to build awareness and expand positive fund-raising relationships with foundation and corporate constituencies.
  • Partners with Sponsored Projects Office to support effective collaboration and provide resources to faculty on common work, promoting a culture of grant seeking at SCU.
  • Identifies key alumni within foundations/corporations and reviews corporate profiles that suggest potential relationships because of common interests.
  • Takes an active role in researching potential funding prospects and manages assigned foundation and corporate prospects.
  • Advises other university personnel on foundation and corporate areas of interest in the cultivation of foundations and corporations and the development and presentation of proposals.
  • Visits and develops relationships with foundation and corporate directors, presidents, and trustees on behalf of the University and arranges for foundation and corporate administrators to visit the campus.
  • Personally, manage a portfolio of top foundation prospects.
  • Serve as a leader and support the professional development of the team through intentional leadership that is inclusive, transparent, and empowering.
  • Represent the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations at various cultivation and fundraising events, working with University Advancement.
  • Manage the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations annual budget.
  • Ensure Santa Clara University Advancement protocols are followed in all aspects of the donor process, including gift processing and acknowledgment, prospecting, soliciting, and stewarding.
  • In conjunction with the donor relations team, create written reports for foundations and updates for faculty, craft acknowledgment letters, and respond to requests from faculty, donors, and advancement colleagues.
  • Track progress and results, following SCU's prospect management guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.


PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION
  • Provide leadership and direct management for a team of three
  • Take responsibility for hiring, mentoring, annual performance reviews, and the handling of disciplinary issues.
  • Inspire and motivate staff, meeting regularly to provide clear communication of objectives, goals and priorities, provide guidance and timely feedback; ensure direct reports have access to appropriate training in order to perform duties as assigned.
  • Establish performance metrics for the Corporate and Foundation Relations team in concert with University Relations leadership and foster a culture of accountability.


QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The items below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience required or preferred.

1. Knowledge
  • Fundraising experience in higher education, with preference given to candidates with foundation development experience.
  • Managing a professional fundraising staff, with a preference for experience with management of Corporate & Foundation Relations operations at other higher-education institutions.
  • Possesses knowledge of the leading institutional philanthropy trends in the Corporate and Foundation Relations industry and experience utilizing these approaches effectively to secure funding.
  • Proven knowledge in fundraising database management (experience with Blackbaud CRM is ideal)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of communication media: virtual and print.
  • Knowledge and experience using technology to enhance communications as well as operational efficiencies in the office.
  • Working knowledge of developing programmatic budgets.
  • Understanding and appreciation of the mission of Santa Clara University and the vision and values of a Jesuit Catholic educational institution.

4. Education
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred.


5. Years of Experience
  • Required Field of Expertise: 10-12 years of fundraising experience in higher education that includes 5 years of experience working in foundation and/or corporate development.
  • A minimum of 5 years managing a professional fundraising staff in higher-education institutions, with a preference for experience with management of Corporate & Foundation Relations operations
