Job Summary:

The CGIAR Research Program on Agriculture for Nutrition and Health (A4NH) is built on the notion that agriculture has the potential to do much more than contribute to basic food and income needs. A4NH is designed to fill the existing gap between agricultural development and its unfulfilled health and nutritional benefits. This program is led by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) in partnership with four other CGIAR Centers and two academic institutions and multiple partners from agriculture, nutrition, and health communities from around the world. The program is managed by a small Program Management Unit based at IFPRI.

IFPRI seeks a qualified candidate to fill the position of Communications Assistant for a nine-month, part-time (22.5 hours/week) non-exempt, appointment. Under the direct supervision of the Senior Communications Specialist, the Communications Assistant will assist the Program Management Unit by supporting communications, promotion, and outreach of the program's research during the program's final year. This position is based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, D.C. This position will be not eligible for IFPRI's benefits package except for minimum sick leave accrual per state regulations.



Essential Duties:

The Communications Assistant will support the Senior Communications Specialist with a wide variety of communications activities, from designing campaigns to generating materials to promoting results. The position will be critical in communicating outcomes and impacts of the program's work to external stakeholders.

Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Developing research highlights for the A4NH 2020 and 2021 annual reports

  • Assisting in drafting content that distills research results, lessons learned, and outcomes and impacts for various platforms (e.g., print, web, social media), including blogs and issue briefs that cover issues ranging from gender and nutrition to food systems to One Health.

  • Proof reading and formatting scientific reports, discussion papers, presentations, and other materials as needed

  • Posting material to the A4NH website, including identifying and securing approval for relevant cross-posts

  • Monitoring and updating A4NH social media

  • Supporting visual design efforts, ranging from graphic development to photo selection

  • Supporting efforts to package, preserve, and export A4NH communications content as program draws to a close




Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or four years of relevant work experience.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

  • Exceptional organizational skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities and keep track of many details.

  • Must exhibit polished customer service skills to be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior researchers and external partners.

  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; proven ability to be flexible in a team-oriented environment with diverse groups of people.

  • Efficient, flexible, and able to quickly adapt and adjust work to resolve pressing issues.

  • Experience and/or interest in international development, nutrition, agriculture, and/or global health.

  • Highly proficient with computers and related software and various social media platforms, including Microsoft Office, WordPress, and Twitter.

  • Excellent typing skills required: 50-65 wpm preferred.




Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in video editing and/or graphic design, including with Adobe Creative Suite



  • Experience working with an international organization

  • Proficiency in a language other than English.
