Job Description:

The Early Learning Campus at Madison College is seeking a Child Care Nutritionist/Cook for our expanding campus center. In this role the Child Care Nutritionist/Cook is responsible for designing and implementing the childcare cycle menu, purchasing, preparing food, and ensuring compliance with Child & Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) regulation and documentation. Candidates should possess fundamental cooking skills, along with experience in preparing meals in large quantities, including menu planning, ordering, record-keeping, and maintaining food safety and sanitation standards.

This is a full-time, Monday through Friday position, with varying hours between 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Essential Duties:
  • Menu and Meal Creation: In conjunction with Admin Team members, create 6-week cycle menus and production records that reflect all CACFP regulations for children ages 6weeks - 5 years old; order/stock/maintain needed food items for the menu, following all purchasing requirements.
  • Meal service: Prepare breakfast, lunch, and afternoon snack, including needed service dishes/utensils, for classrooms; consistently modify menus/production records for allergy and/or other substitutions and infant food modifications. As assigned, modify meal prep for changes in attendance, food availability, specific dietary needs, special events, etc. within established guidelines. Wash and sanitize all service and food prep dishes/utensils in accordance with WI Child Care Licensing regulations.
  • Documentation: Maintain and submit on time all required CACFP and Madison College required paperwork: production records; inventories; cycle menus & adjustments; meal counts; food purchase receipts, prepared food item labels (CN Labels) to the Admin Team. Compile assigned written and computer reports accurately.
  • Safety: ensure no cross-contamination risk in preparation and storage; maintain storage and service temperatures; monitor expiration dates and ensure foods are used within dates; label/store opened items and/or leftovers as required within CACFP requirements. Clean and maintain kitchen, food service utensils/equipment, and all food storage areas to standards mandated by WI Child Care Licensing, CACFP standards, and best practices.
  • Guide work of other kitchen help, including student-help. Consistently protect the confidentiality of families, children, team members, administrative staff, student staff, and others working or volunteering in, or attending, the center.
  • Maintains a commitment to the college mission, vision, and values.
  • Other duties as defined by department, college, or officials.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
  • Basic cooking skills plus experience in food service and volume meal preparation, including shopping, menu planning, record keeping, and food safety & sanitation; meet and maintain other requirements of WI Licensing Rules for Group Child Care Centers (DCF 251) for health, work abilities, initial/ongoing education requirements and ongoing criminal background checks.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision; follow instructions through a standard work process, and check work for accuracy before completion of tasks.
  • Be able to work successfully in a fast-paced, stimulating environment; able to lift 50 pounds and stand, move in different directions, bend, stoop for extended lengths of time (sedentary work very limited). Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers
  • Operate food-service machinery (including but not limited to: cutting tools, stove/oven, dishwasher/sanitizer, mixers/blenders, manual/electronic can openers, etc)


Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate Degree or equivalent working experience. *Experience used as an equivalent of an educational requirement is in addition to any experience required by the position.
  • Three (3) years of work experience directly related to the skills required for successfully performing the duties of this position.
