Job Description:
Reporting to the Director of The Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Program (HEOP) at Syracuse University, the Associate Director of the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Program (HEOP) at Syracuse University plays a pivotal role in fostering a thriving academic environment for a diverse student population. This position demands a visionary leader with strategic acumen, a commitment to data-driven decision-making, and exceptional interpersonal skills to forge meaningful partnerships across campus. The successful candidate will champion innovative practices while upholding the program's tradition of excellence, ultimately contributing to the retention and graduation of program students from all university schools and colleges.

Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, or related field with a minimum of three years experience in counseling; one year in Higher Education and one year experience in some supervisory capacity.
  • Proven experience in leadership roles within higher education, particularly in programs supporting underrepresented student populations.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationship and foster collaboration across diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a track record of advocating for marginalized communities.
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to envision and implement innovative solutions to complex challenges.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the capacity to articulate a compelling vision and inspire others to action.
  • Knowledge of current trends, issues, and best practices in higher education, particularly in student retention and success.


Job Specific Qualifications:
  • Experience and qualifications in a higher education setting, including academic counseling, advising, supervision, higher education administration, budgeting, and grant writing.
  • Experience working in compliance with federal, state and institutional guidelines.





Responsibilities:
Proficiency in 3 key areas: Leadership, Coaching, and Strategic Vision; Data Analysis, Forecasting, Research and Best Practices; and Building Strategic Alliances, Communication and Collaboration.

Leadership, Coaching, and Strategic Vision
  • Demonstrate strong self-motivation and strategic thinking to lead a high-functioning team towards programmatic success especially in areas centered on academic counseling, professional training and development, admissions, reporting, and student roster maintenance.
  • Develop and articulate a forward-thinking vision for the program, aligning with the universitys broader goals and objectives.
  • Implement effective strategies to attract, engage, and retain a diverse student population, ensuring inclusivity and equity in all initiatives.
  • Embrace a winning coach mentality, providing focused leadership and mentorship to empower staff and students alike.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement within the program.



Data Analysis, Forecasting, Research, and Best Practices
  • Utilize advanced data collection methods to gather insights for forecasting program direction and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Analyze emerging trends and best practices in higher education to inform decision-making and adapt strategies, accordingly, ensuring the program remains relevant and responsive to student needs.
  • Conduct research to inform programmatic innovation.

Building Strategic Alliances, Communication and Collaboration
  • Cultivate relationships with various campus offices and stakeholders to build strategic alliances in support of student success.
  • Collaborate with partners across the university to leverage resources, promote synergies, and enhance the overall student experience.
  • Communicate effectively with campus partners, faculty, staff and students to promote awareness of HEOP initiatives and opportunities.
