Job Description

The Associate Dean, Undergraduate Programs is responsible for the development, maintenance, and on-going assessment of the curriculum and related programs of study for the undergraduate majors and certificate offerings at the Woods College of Advancing Studies. The Associate Dean is a core member of the academic team and works closely with the Associate Dean Graduate Programs and the Dean. They are responsible for curriculum review, academic planning and scheduling, and the development and implementation of policies and procedures that facilitate a streamlined student experience within the present and future undergraduate offerings within WCAS.

The position's core functions - curriculum creation and review, academic planning and scheduling, and the development and implementation of policies and procedures to facilitate student satisfaction - are each directly related to student retention and re-enrollment.

The Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs will be responsible for the creation of new curricula and the redesign of existing to improve the Woods undergraduate student educational experience and bring it in line with 21st century academic and workforce needs. They will work with faculty to create course-level competencies that are mapped to program outcomes along with appropriate assessment strategies for each program.

The AD will conduct ongoing evaluation of program performance, related to student outcomes, curriculum performance, budget, accreditation requirements, market demand, and external partnerships opportunities.

The Associate Dean of UG programs is responsible for rolling out the new Core Curriculum and for partnering with faculty and instructional designers to determine appropriate program formats for specific classes and groups of classes (online program, hybrid, intensive).

The Associate Dean supports the Director of Summer Programs in coordinating the summer session curriculum offerings (120+ courses) and in the growth of the Boston College Experience program.

The Associate Dean is responsible for all matters related to policies and procedures that regulate undergraduate student life at the WCAS including academic issues that are connected to the student's personal or professional background from admission to graduation. The Associate Dean chairs the admissions committee for undergraduate and visiting students and serves as a non-voting member of the scholarship committee.

The Associate Dean schedules all undergraduate academic courses within the School and works with the Associate Dean for Administration and Finance and Associate Dean for Enrollment Management to project enrollment numbers for the Woods College of Advancing Studies (WCAS).

The Associate Dean interacts with and supports the undergraduate faculty through collegiate committees and participates in activities related to recruitment, course scheduling and staff planning as well as continuing education and certificate offerings. The Associate Dean will recruit and hire faculty and will create systems to vet all faculty candidates, providing as well for summative and formative reviews on a rolling basis. The Associate Dean will ensure faculty are in compliance with conflict of interest and no-compete policy, provide mentoring to newer faculty, evaluate and review faculty performance, and provide professional development opportunities for the faculty who teach undergraduate courses at WCAS.

The WCAS is comprised of approximately 150 part-time faculty, 300 undergraduate students, 175 graduate students, and an additional 550 non-degree, special, and visiting students. Additionally, 600-800 individual day students enroll in Woods College courses per year. Approximately 1,000 students enroll in summer session courses.

Requirements

Five to ten years of experience in higher education, including direct experience working with non-traditional faculty, and students and with curriculum creation and review. Direct experience working in Continuing or Online undergraduate education. Knowledge of continuing and/or professional education theory and standards, strong interpersonal communication skills, experience in dealing with complex academic and student issues, along with leadership and mentoring is required.

Experience working with adult and non-traditional learners in higher education, demonstrated experience with curriculum development and outcomes mapping, and terminal degree required.
