Description

Boston College School of Social Work (BCSSW) is seeking applicants for a Social Work Practice Faculty position at the assistant or associate level beginning September 1, 2019.

The Boston College School of Social Work (BCSSW) endeavors to improve vulnerable lives through pioneering social work education, research, scholarship, and practice at home and in the world. Equity, justice, and inclusion is a strategic direction of utmost priority for the school. Social work practice faculty position is a leadership position for equity, justice, and inclusion at the School. Two areas of functional responsibility will be assigned to this position: (1) Director of RISE 3 and Chair of the Leaders for Equity and Justice at the Workplace Field of Practice; and (2) teaching up to four courses in the macro social work practice sequence.

Research on Social, Economic and Environmental Equity (RISE 3 ) is a collaborative initiative at the Boston College School of Social Work that seeks to examine and address the root causes of social, economic and environmental inequities which are situated in the intersections of race, place and poverty. RISE 3 has sponsored research, supported a summer institute for researchers exploring issues related to race, and has brought speakers to the Boston College campus. https://www.bc.edu/bc-web/schools/ssw/sites/rise3.html. The Director of RISE 3 will be responsible for working with an advisory committee, setting a bold research and policy agenda, and fundraising, and teaching classes in the MSW curriculum related to leadership for social change. The BC SSW will begin an innovative MSW leadership program in the 2019-2020 academic year, Leaders for Equity and Justice at the Workplace. MSW students who participate in the Leaders for Equity and Justice at the Workplace will receive specialized training that will prepare them to assume leadership positions at nonprofit organizations focused on diversity and inclusion. The Professor of Practice will Chair this new initiative, teaching the inaugural courses in the spring and summer of 2020 (and thereafter offering these courses annually).

Qualifications

The BC SSW is seeking applicants with demonstrated commitment to a range of issues related to equity and justice, research and policy experience, teaching excellence, and experience with fundraising. A Masters or a PhD in social work or a related field is desired. Competitive applicants will have experience advancing equity, justice, and inclusion initiatives in the nonprofit sector.
