Job Summary: The adjunct will teach truck driving skills in an open entry/open exit competency-based classroom. Instruction includes preparing students for a Class A and/or Class B CDL license, including pre-trip inspections, backing skills, shifting skills, pulling single and double trailers, log books, and other related skills.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties: 1. Follows the course curriculum outline, prepares and delivers lectures and other classroom activities
2. Prepares students for the Class A and/or Class B CDL License using classroom and lab activities
3. Trains students behind the wheel and over the road using a variety of trucks and transmissions
4. Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization5. Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators6. Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments7. Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards8. Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid purposes) and grades9. Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance10. Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines11. Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment12. Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy13. Maintains professional and collegial behavior14. Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 1-2 days)15. Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure16. Completes all required employee trainings17. Knows and enforces FERPA guidelines18. Provides ADA accommodations as requested

Essential Responsibilities and Duties Continued:

Minimum Qualifications: 1. Three to five years experience driving trucks pulling singles and doubles, both long haul and locally
2. Experience teaching adults in truck driving or related field
3. Current and valid CDL Class A license for the State of Utah
4. Current DOT physical
5. Excellent driving record
6. Must participate in the SLCC random drug testing program.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience with heavy duty construction equipmentBilingual Spanish/English.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, culture, ethnic background, and abilities, to maintain good working relationships across the College. The ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.

Special Instructions: This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available. Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.Finalists must pass a pre-employment DOT drug test prior to an offer of employment.In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester by semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.Official transcripts are required for those who are offered employment within in 30 days of hire.In accordance with Board of Regents policy, SLCCs Human Resources will conduct a criminal background check on instructors if concurrent enrollment (K-12) students are assigned to classes.
