Writing Program Overview:

Our Writing Program draws on the expertise of full-time professors with backgrounds in composition and rhetoric. Our goal is to provide students with rigorous and engaging writing instruction that stresses writing-to-learn, critical thinking, and extensive revision. All courses use a workshop approach.

We value our adjunct faculty members and strive to create an engaged and supportive community. We offer regular teaching circles, workshops, and other opportunities for dialogue and reflection on writing pedagogy.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Developing a course syllabus and course content that draws on materials provided by the writing program and that are consistent with best practices in the discipline.
  • Teaching a workshop-based writing course with a heavy emphasis on developing and revising essays over several drafts.
  • Contributing to student success by providing consistent and effective support and guidance.


Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned Master's or PhD in English or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • One or more years teaching in higher education
  • Some academic background in writing studies. This could include coursework, pedagogy workshops, or other types of training.


Personal Attributes and Traits:

  • Good classroom presence and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds. Enthusiasm about teaching writing.
  • Interest in professional growth and in learning more about writing pedagogy.
