Description:
The Lyle School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University (SMU) is actively seeking applications for multiple renewable contract non-tenure-track (NTT) faculty positions in the Civil and Environmental Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Operations Research and Engineering Management Departments. These positions are 9-month full-time, non-tenure track faculty appointments with renewable three- to five-year contracts at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank, based on the candidates' experience and accomplishments. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications. The expected teaching load will be 3 to 4 courses in each regular fall and spring semester, along with potential service responsibilities.

In addition to the nine-month salary, successful candidates have the opportunity to secure up to three months (33.3%) of their academic year salary through externally funded grants and contracts. Additionally, they may be eligible for summer or intersession instruction opportunities based on our course offerings and enrollment. The latter is subject to approval from the respective department chair and will be in accordance with the compensation rate at the Lyle School of Engineering.

Unveiling Opportunities: Embarking on an ambitious faculty recruitment campaign, Lyle is experiencing remarkable growth with the creation of over eighteen distinct new faculty positions for the upcoming academic year 2023-24. These encompass six tenure track (TT) roles within the strategic themes of Sustainable Energy and the Environment, AI-Powered Digital Engineering Systems, Quantum Science and Engineering and Data Science. Also featured are the Executive Director of the Hart Center for Leadership, Executive Director for Research Innovation in the Center for Digital and Human-Augmented Manufacturing, Co-Executive Director of the Hart Institute for Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and the Walden and Paula Rhines Endowed Quantum Informatics Professor in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering. In addition, Lyle is hiring three new Endowed Department Chairs across multiple departments (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Computer Science) within our Engineering School. Furthermore, six cross-disciplinary renewable contract (non-TT) Assistant and Associate professors round out the offerings.

Qualifications:
Eligible candidates must possess a Ph.D. degree in the engineering disciplines represented in the school or in closely related areas. The target start date is August 2024, however, earlier start date in January 2024 is also available.
