Position Summary

The Student Success Librarian is a one-year appointment dedicated to engaging students, faculty, and staff on the Charlotte campus as the library develops and expands shared services between the libraries in Charlotte and Burlington. The librarian plays a key role in supporting student success by delivering high-quality research assistance and developing information literacy instruction and building strong relationships with academic departments, student support services, and student organizations. This librarian will promote library services, programs and collections through campus partnerships, program development, workshops, and targeted support. The Student Success Librarian will remain current with developments and trends in teaching, research, and learning that impact students, such as AI tolls, and proactively incorporate instructional material related to the use of emerging technologies in library research.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.
Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and SharePoint.
Coursework, knowledge of, or experience in outreach and student success activities.
Commitment to student-centered service and continuous learning.
Familiarity with various modes of instruction and various services in an academic library.
Commitment to equitable access to expertise, support, and resources for all library patrons.
Commitment to working effectively as part of the library team.

Preferred Education and Experience

One or more years of experience working in an academic library.
Experience providing reference and instruction in an academic library.
Experience with a learning management system (LMS).
Experience collaborating or working in a student services capacity, such as an academic success center.
Experience using Canva, LibGuides, and Zoom.

Job Duties

  • Partner with faculty, campus departments, and student groups to coordinate student success efforts by promoting library services and expanding campus-wide engagement with library resources.
  • Assist in developing promotional materials, social media content, and events to raise awareness of library services and resources. Participate in campus activities, including student events.
  • Work with Library Services and Operations Specialist to coordinate library representation at various orientation and enrollment events.
  • Provide instruction and consultation to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff in using library resources, including databases, research tools, and OER support.
  • Assists with managing Research 101 online self-paced course, including providing access and usage reporting.
  • Design, develop, and deliver information literacy instruction sessions, workshops, and tutorials that prepare students to think critically, evaluate, and responsibly use information and emerging technologies such as AI.
  • Working with Associate Dean of Charlotte library, conduct a needs assessment to inform planning as merger of two universities moves forward.
  • Engages in professional development, scholarly activity, and service.
  • Participates in inclusive team building in the Charlotte library, the Belk library, and University at large.
  • May serve on QEP Steering Committee or other campus committees.
  • May help provide operations support for the library as needed.
