PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Director of Communications for Enrollment Management, the Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, planning, reviewing, and implementing a wide range of communications in support of Enrollment Management and the departments, programs and activities in the Division, through all media platforms and other forms of communication, including Salesforce, digital communication social media platforms, web content, annual reports, press releases, scripts, and presentations. Additionally, the Senior Communications Specialist will facilitate collaboration between any department-based communication and design staff (professional and para-professional) as available to promote Enrollment Management, congruent marketing messages, and project a positive, consistent image.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Researches, designs and produces communication plans, content marketing and assets for use in building brand awareness, increasing inquiries, applications and enrollments; assists with long-range editorial planning and strategy for Enrollment Management needs, providing consistency of messaging across all formats; continually seeking new techniques for communicating information in print and digital platforms; develops themes and concepts in overseeing creation of content and communication materials.
- Develops creative content and creative vendor management for digital/social creative, copywriting, website copy/development and Salesforce as well as social content for multiple profiles within Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat and TikTok along with other and emerging digital/social platforms; Spearhead several specific campaign programs, included but not limited to: influencer/creator programs, alternative content/art creation with graphic designers, digital/platform-specific events, follow design trends, patterns, and cutting-edge web approaches relevant to CSUMB's diverse target markets.
- Develops strategies to promote the image of CSUMB to primary HS and CC target markets and their influencers; determines contemporary and cutting-edge techniques and approaches for reaching effective target audiences; identifies the needs and interests of various constituent groups; conceives communication and marketing concepts, ideas, and campaigns for Enrollment Management.
- Creates and maintains relationships with individuals and departments on campus. Works closely with campus partners to create strategic marketing to support the division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Serves as division web content publisher. Construct a network of appropriate vendors to support product purchases for the needs of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs including recruitment events and promotional materials. Collaborate on student messages across digital platforms.
- Recommends equipment and technology tools. Records and tracks the current state of technology devices or equipment. Works closely with vendors and technology tools that facilitates SEO for page optimization across websites, parent and family engagement tools, behavioral intelligent for lead growth and other platforms for enrollment management goals.
- Contributes to departmental program review, annual reports, strategic planning, and goal setting; attends seminars and conferences to maintain program and professional development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge: Possesses thorough and advanced knowledge of marketing, branding, communications, public relations, and related disciplines. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of media relations, media publicity campaigns, interview techniques, and media messaging strategies. Maintains working knowledge of marketing research techniques, statistical methods, and research methodologies, as well as technology and event planning and management tools. Stays informed about campus events and current issues to identify opportunities that enhance the university's visibility and reputation.
Skills: Demonstrates advanced analytical, organizational, and project management skills to successfully prioritize and complete multiple initiatives within established time and budget constraints. Possesses strong story development, journalistic writing, and editorial skills, along with advanced public relations, internal relations, communication, and interpersonal skills that support effective stakeholder engagement, collaboration, and vendor partnership management. Shows proven skill in developing and implementing strategic communications and marketing campaigns that achieve measurable results. Exhibits advanced mentoring and supervisory skills and effectively utilizes technology and event planning and management tools to support organizational objectives.
Abilities: Demonstrates the ability to effectively utilize media outlets by planning media coverage and publicity campaigns that promote the university and increase positive media exposure. Applies advanced judgment independently to create and implement communication strategies and initiatives. Analyzes and synthesizes information to identify key messages and integrate pertinent facts into effective communication vehicles. Uses market research and statistical methods to identify communication needs, target audiences, and inform decision-making. Builds and maintains strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, represents the university effectively, supports organizational change initiatives, and successfully manages multiple projects while meeting deadlines and budgetary requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Equivalent to a bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for year basis.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE:
Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent <student/finance> information system; Microsoft Office Professional; Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Forms, etc.); 25Live; intranet drives; and internet browsers.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
Office environment with standard equipment and tasks. The position requires working at a computer and desk for extended periods of time. May require travel between campus offices and off-campus locations.
