POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Equipment Room (Cage) Manager oversees all aspects of equipment room operations at Lowry Studios, ensuring production assets are well-maintained, accurately tracked, and readily available to support academic and production activities. This role leads equipment room operations, fulfillment, and inventory control, while managing the full lifecycle of equipment including maintenance, repairs, procurement, and budget oversight.
The manager collaborates closely with faculty, students, and staff to meet instructional and production needs, delivering high-quality customer service and administering training and certification programs that promote responsible and safe equipment use. Additional responsibilities include supervising student employees, coordinating support for events, maintaining safe and functional facilities, and contributing to departmental operations and communications.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Equipment Room Operations:Manage Lowry Studios equipment room ("the Cage"), ensuring efficient daily operations, high-quality customer service, and effective use of proprietary FS Greenlight software. Serve as the primary point of contact for equipment requests, issue resolution, and policy enforcement. Monitor high-value spaces and maintain clean, safe, and functional facilities.
- Order Fulfillment & Inventory Control:Process and fulfill equipment orders, recommending alternative solutions as needed to meet demands of multiple simultaneous projects. Maintain accurate inventory records to ensure availability, tracking, and timely replacement of equipment.
- Maintenance, Repairs & Procurement:Oversee cleaning, maintenance, and repair of production equipment to ensure optimal functionality. Coordinate repairs with vendors, recommend and source new equipment, gather quotes, and manage annual budget. Support grant proposals and collaborate with vendors to align new acquisitions with program needs.
- Customer Service & Academic Collaboration:Partner with faculty and instructors to anticipate and meet equipment and training needs for coursework and student productions. Deliver responsive, solutions-focused service and trainings to students, faculty, and instructors.
- Training & Certification Programs:Deliver trainings on equipment, high-value spaces, and FS Greenlight software. Manage certification processes to ensure compliance with department guidelines. Produce and maintain training materials and videos and recommend improvements to streamline systems and enhance user experience.
- Student Employee Supervision:Recruit, onboard, schedule, and supervise work-study students and student volunteers. Delegate tasks, ensure efficient workflow, and monitor financial aid compliance for student employees.
- Event & Production Support:Coordinate equipment and student crews for departmental events and productions, assisting with planning, setup, run and wrap. Support recurring department meetings and events and special engagements at Lowry Studios.
- Department Operations & Communications Support:Support daily Lowry Studios operations by coordinating large deliveries and providing front desk coverage as needed, either directly or with work-study students. Contribute to departmental communications by creating graphic design assets for events and producing content for the department newsletter.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Associate's degree in film production, media arts, theater technology, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Professional Experience:
- 2-3 years of hands-on experience in an equipment room, production environment, rental house, or similar setting
- Basic knowledge of film/production equipment (camera, lighting, grip, audio)
- Experience providing customer service in a fast-paced, multi-user environment
- Some experience with equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, or coordination of repairs
- Demonstrated ability to supervise student workers or part-time staff
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously in a calm and professional manner
- Experience using inventory or asset management software
- Proficiency with standard office softwares (email, spreadsheets, scheduling tools)
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in film production, cinematography, media arts, or a related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
Professional Experience:
- 4-6+ years of experience managing or leading an equipment room, production facility, or rental house
- Advanced working knowledge of professional-grade production equipment
- Experience overseeing the full equipment lifecycle (inventory, maintenance, repair, replacement, procurement)
- Experience managing budgets, vendor relationships, and purchasing processes
- Proven experience supervising staff or student teams, including hiring, training, and scheduling in an academic environment
- Experience building training and certification programs for equipment use, including development of training materials/videos
- Experience developing workflow improvements
- Experience supporting live productions, student film shoots, or events, including crew coordination
- Basic graphic design or content creation skills for communications, including knowledge of industry-standard graphic design software (Canva, Adobe Illustrator, or similar)
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Salary Range: Anticipated salary range is $52,508.84- $60,385.17 annually. This salary is determined by the qualifications of the selected candidate balanced with departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.
