Pasadena City College is hiring a Full-Time, Tenure-Track Counselor commencing on July 1, 2026.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE GENERAL COUNSELOR:
  • Conducts academic counseling to assess students' immediate and long range goals, develop abbreviated and comprehensive educational plans, refer students to institutional resources, improve academic status, identify financial assistance, and navigate higher education, and succeed in college
  • Conducts group counseling sessions and learning community counseling
  • Interprets certificate, associate degree, and transfer related requirement to assist students pursue educational and career objectives
  • Enter counseling notes in the college's electronic record keeping software
  • Evaluate student aptitudes, abilities, and interests to advise them regarding career interests, career uncertainty, current employment trends and future employment trends
  • Provide information about transfer and admissions requirements to a variety of colleges and universities
  • Teach counseling courses such as, but not limited to, personal growth, development, career planning, and orientation to college
  • Conducts presentations and workshops to assist District outreach services
  • Participate in the evaluation, revision, and development of the curriculum
  • Participate in the recruitment, outreach, and development of internship opportunities for students
  • Participate with faculty to develop and assess student learning outcomes. Use the results to improve teaching, learning, and counseling services
  • Undertake the divisional and professional responsibilities of a regular faculty member
  • Participate in professional development activities that support best practices for teaching and counseling a diverse population of both major and non-major students
  • Participate in divisional and college governance activities through committee service and/or other appropriate activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Use general office software and equipment to develop reports, presentations, counseling materials, aggregate data, and communicate with District staff and students

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master's in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, career development, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family and child counseling,
(NOTE: A bachelor's degree in one of the listed degrees and a license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT) is an alternative qualification for this discipline.)

Degree must be shown as conferred on transcript. Some degrees may require equivalency. When equivalency is requested, the file will be reviewed by PCC's Equivalency Committee. It is the applicant's responsibility to provide ample documentation to support equivalent qualifications.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Familiarity counseling special populations attending community college such as: student athletes, undocumented students, LGBTQIA+ community, International F-1, high school concurrent/dual enrollment students, adult re-entry students, and formerly incarcerated or system-impacted students.
  • Demonstrated passion for, and experience with, counseling and teaching a diverse student body with a broad spectrum of socioeconomic means and academic preparation.
  • Experience with equity, inclusion, and student success initiatives, including knowledge of culturally sustaining pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging African American, Latinx, and Indigenous groups who are historically underrepresented and underserved.
  • Experience teaching in dual enrollment programs serving middle and/or high school students, with the ability to guide students in course selection and college preparation.
  • Experience with Guided Pathways and career communities or similar student support models.
  • Experience supporting diverse student populations in career development, including navigating major/career decision-making, addressing barriers, and strengthening career navigation skills.
  • Experience in transfer counseling, including guiding students through transfer pathways from community colleges to CSU, UC, private, and out-of-state universities; demonstrated knowledge of transfer policies and requirements; and proficiency in utilizing online transfer tools and resources to support student success.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in community college environments with demonstrated experience providing accessible, student-centered counseling across multiple modalities, serving students in all academic and career/technical areas, as well as knowledge of student support services.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and adapt to new technologies, with experience using online tools and digital resources to support student success.




THE ASSIGNMENT:
  • Eleven Months, 100% - Tenure-track position beginning July 2026
  • Thirty-five (35) hours per week, plus five (5) hours for professional growth and development activities, college governance, and other professional responsibilities.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Successful completion of live scan clearance and TB screening.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the United States and signing of loyalty oath per government codes 3100-3109.
  • Meeting applicable eligibility requirements under CalPERS or CalSTRS if you are a current or former member.
  • Board of Trustees approval.
