Job Summary


Facilities Management at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Pipefitter (Service). This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing existing facility piping systems, including low- and medium-pressure steam, hydronic heating and cooling, pumps, and mechanical system valves. The role requires a working knowledge of plumbing and mechanical system troubleshooting and involves service work on existing mechanical systems.

Who We Are


Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge.


What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be


Steam Systems
  • Perform work on steam systems by troubleshooting, diagnosing, installing, repairing and testing low-medium pressure steam piping, steam traps, exchangers, steam radiant heat and control valves.

Hydronic Heating and Chilled Water Systems
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair hydronic/radiant systems and components. Actuator valves, baseboard radiant heat, VAV's, pumps, and regulators. This includes cutting, threading, brazing and soldering pipe as needed.

Plumbing Relate Support
  • Be responsible for providing occasional plumbing duties including assisting with hot water heaters, expansion tanks, and active leaks.

After-Hours Emergencies
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies as needed. Work past shift to complete work if emergencies arise. Work scheduled overtime during down times at University.

Communication
  • Communicate with Pipe Trades Shop Supervisor, building proctors, managers and customers, ensuring awareness of status on work orders, work requests and projects.

Preventive Maintenance
  • Perform preventive maintenance functions by inspecting utility tunnels and mechanical rooms for leaks and equipment failure, servicing equipment on prescribed schedule.

Other Duties
  • Perform daily paperwork to make sure time cards are complete and work orders are filled out and closed. Follow safety policies, procedures and guidelines, and adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations in a timely manner.

  • The annual salary for this role is $74,500.
  • If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require

  • 3 years of increasingly responsible pipe and/or mechanical experience related to the work assignment OR a combination of related education, formalized apprenticeship program, and/or relevant experience equal to 3 years.
  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply.
  • Must have a valid Colorado driver's license.
