Job Description:

The TRIO Student Support Services Program at Madison College is seeking a Student Success Coach to work on a five-year TRIO grant. This position provides individualized coaching and academic support to help students navigate challenges, develop skills and achieve their educational goals. Success in this role involves fostering student motivation, connecting students to resources and adapting strategies to meet diverse needs. This position contributes to institutional objectives by promoting student retention, improving academic outcomes and advancing a holistic approach to student success.

The Student Success Coach is primarily responsible for coordinating TRIO program services and supporting the development and delivery of comprehensive academic support initiatives designed to increase the retention, transfer and graduation rates of eligible participants.

The Student Success Coach contributes to institutional objectives by promoting student retention, enhancing academic outcomes and supporting a holistic approach to student success. Success in this role involves fostering student motivation, connecting students with appropriate resources and adjusting support strategies to meet a wide range of needs.

The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals who are first generation, low-income, and/or have a disability.

Position Details:

Schedule: This is a full-time, 52-week-per-year position scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm, with occasional evenings until 6:00pm and weekend events as needed. This position follows a hybrid schedule of three days onsite and two days remote, subject to change in accordance with Madison College policy.

Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting departmental criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.

Grant Funded: Grant Funded: This is a renewable, grant funded position through August 31, 2026, continuation of this position is dependent on continued funding beyond this date. However, it is expected to be renewed.

Accountabilities:
  • Builds supportive relationships with students to assess strengths, identify academic goals and uncover barriers that may impact success.
  • Promotes student persistence by teaching academic success strategies and guiding students in developing action plans tailored to their individual needs.
  • Connects students with campus and community resources to support holistic well-being and reduce barriers to academic achievement.
  • Responds to faculty alerts and student concerns by providing timely outreach and follow-up to address academic and engagement challenges.
  • Offers accessible coaching through workshops, classroom visits, drop-in support and individual appointments to maintain consistent student contact.
  • Provides foundational academic planning support and interprets degree progress tools to assist students in making informed enrollment decisions.
  • Documents coaching interactions and tracks student outreach to support coordinated care and inform retention efforts.
  • May provide program coordination and event management, including determining event and programming needs, scheduling, facilitating, acquiring resources and providing project management oversight for programs or events.
  • Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.

  • Knowledge of student development theory, academic coaching practices and factors influencing student retention and success.
  • Knowledge of campus and community resources that support students' academic, financial and personal well-being.
  • Skill in building rapport, engaging with students and, in assessing student needs and applying coaching techniques.
  • Ability to document interactions and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to manage multiple processes, meet deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience
