Summary:

The Director of Faculty Affairs, reporting to Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all faculty related processes across basic science and clinical departments. This role ensures the smooth functioning of faculty appointments, academic promotions, reappointments, and faculty development activities. Working closely with the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, department chairs, and institutional HR, the Director plays a central role in supporting the academic and clinical mission of the school. The position requires deep knowledge of faculty tracks (tenure, clinician educator, research), LCME, AAMC, and other accreditation or compliance requirements standards, and the complexities of joint appointments and hospital-based faculty. Qualifications: The ideal candidate has excellent organizational and leadership skills, judgment, integrity, flexibility, and creativity, as well as a positive and collaborative attitude. Ability to keep confidentiality is required. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills This position requires Masters degree in higher education administration, public administration, health administration, or related field; doctoral degree preferred. Minimum 510 years of progressive experience in faculty affairs or academic administration, ideally within a medical or health sciences school. Deep knowledge of academic medicine, including faculty tracks, accreditation standards, and clinical appointment structures. Strong communication, relationship-building, and diplomatic skills. Proven ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues with discretion. Experience interpreting bylaws, policies, and contracts. Familiarity with LCME, ACGME, AAMC, and other accreditation or compliance requirements. Familiarity with the BUMC/BU environment is desired as well as efficiency in time management, organization, accuracy, and attention to detail, especially in preparing and verifying important documents. Discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality are required. Attention to details and ability to write and edit documents are preferred.

Required Skills
  • Must be excellent in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), virtual communication platforms (Zoom, Teams), Social Media platforms, web-based document sharing platforms (Google docs, Box.com, etc.), and be comfortable with technology.
  • Competences in using excel and related database are highly desired.
  • Specifically, strong proficiency in using Excel is desired. Experience with Word Press and website maintenance is preferred.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate information clearly and effectively to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management are required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information are desired.
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer service abilities and be able to adjust to individual needs of students, staff, and faculty.
