Under the direction of the Dean, General Education, the Coordinator, Gear Up Grant, plans, implements, and oversees all services and activities funded by the federal GEAR UP grant, ensuring the college meets its grant objectives. The position exists to increase the number of low-income students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education by coordinating support services, academic advising, and college-readiness activities.

Work is within a cross-functional, diverse, challenging, and high-volume environment, that requires multitasking skills, the ability to meet deadlines and deal with complex situations. Operates with strong professional judgment, accuracy, and decision making with minimal supervision. Daily responsibilities are completed independently using established policies and general objectives with interaction with supervisor limited to problems or unusual conditions.

Note: MATC has received this Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) grant through September 2032. Funding for this position is contingent upon the terms of the grant. This position is currently funded through 9/30/26.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities


  • Program Management and Grant Oversight: Oversees the implementation of all federally funded GEAR UP initiatives and program services in alignment with grant goals and timelines. Ensures adherence to federal, state, and institutional policies governing grant operations. Manages budgets, expenditures, and required reporting in collaboration with the Dean and grant compliance. Collects, analyzes, and reports program data to demonstrate progress toward grant objectives.
  • Student Support and Coordination: Coordinates academic advising, financial aid literacy, career exploration, and college-transition activities for GEAR UP participants and their families to support postsecondary readiness.
  • Reporting and Evaluation: Collects, analyzes, and reports program participation, outcomes, and progress data for the grant to required agencies, institutional leadership, and external evaluators in accordance with federal reporting requirements.
  • Outreach and Collaboration: Coordinates activities with partner K-12 schools (middle and high), college departments, community organizations, and families to expand college-readiness opportunities and ensure alignment of services. Develops and coordinates promotional/marketing materials; provides information and materials in response to inquiries; conducts seminars and workshops; makes group presentations as required.
  • Policy and Procedure Creation and Training: Supports the implementation of policies and processes that promote a caring, successful culture and encourage continuous improvement. Assists in developing best practices and processes for GEAR UP programs.
  • Ethics and Confidentiality: Practices honesty by demonstrating a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles, values, truthfulness and accuracy in all actions. Addresses all student and employee behavior in a confidential and respectful manner.
  • Collaborative Teamwork: Establishes, maintains, and enhances positive work relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Continuous Learning and Professional Development: Maintains current knowledge of best practices in the fields of development, gift services, and data management by participating in training opportunities, user groups, publications, and professional groups. Actively organizes and/or participates in applicable workgroups, trainings, workshops, seminars, committees and professional associations or conferences to promote continuous learning.
  • Other duties: Performs other related duties within the scope of the position as required for the efficient operation of the division and to support institutional objectives.


Qualifications


Compliance with all state, federal, and accreditation standards/requirement, as well as all MATC policies and procedures.

Required Minimum Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field with at least one (1) year of progressive experience working in program development, training, mentoring, or student engagement.

Preferred Education, Education & Certification: In additional to the minimums listed.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in related field with at least three (3) years of progressive experience working in program development, training, mentoring, or student engagement.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of designing, implementing, and evaluating programs.
  • Experience supervising and training volunteers or student workers.
  • Ability to provide exceptional internal customer service.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.
  • Ability to establish, collaborate and maintain effective work relationships with peers, students, teachers, staff, representatives of outside agencies, educational institutions, and the general public.
  • Ability to convey an image of professionalism and dedication in work related activities.
  • Ability to work with culturally diverse student and employee populations.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software specific to position, including Google Suite.
  • Ability to work successfully with minimal supervision and serve in a leadership role to others.
  • Ability to establish workflows, manage multiple projects, and meet necessary deadlines.


Supplemental Information


Start Date: This position supports the General Education Division and is available to start as soon as possible. This is a GEAR UP Grant Funded positions with current funding through September 30, 2026
Hours/Location: This is a 100% IN PERSON, 40 hours per work week, year round positions. This position will be based out of our Milwaukee Downtown location. Employees will conduct all work hours in the State of Wisconsin, performing work outside the state is strictly prohibited.Note: This position is limited term and is subject to end on September 30, 2026. If additional funding is not secured the position may end.
This is currently a NOT benefit eligible (including vacation/sick accruals and WRS pension) position. If funding is renewed in October, it would then become fully benefit eligible on November 2026.

Compensation: Hourly rates are listed up to the midpoint of the range and placement is determined based on years of experience, internal salary equity, and a review of the applicant's employment and educational background as listed on the job application.
