Job Description:

The Assistant Director, Office of Medical School Student Affairs (OSA) is responsible for the development and implementation of all OSA programming, provides administrative oversight over OSA programs, and facilitates timely and comprehensive communication to other medical school departments to ensure transparent and high-quality service to students., The Office of Student Affairs exists to provide essential support for medical students in their development as a community of individuals who are thriving personally and professionally. The Assistant Director works closely with the Associate Dean for Student Affairs and directs key elements of the Office of Medical School Student Affairs, in close collaboration with the Operations and Student Affairs Manager. In collaboration with the Associate and Assistant Deans for Student Affairs and the Director of Career Advising, this position provides essential student support and serves as a resource and reference for students, advising students on all aspects of their medical school experience. The Assistant Director serves as a resource for the Director of the Mary B. Arnold mentoring program in their oversight of administrative aspects of the Mary B. Arnold longitudinal mentoring program.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) plus 5-7 years of relevant experience with demonstrated progressive increase in scope in responsibility (medical education program administration preferred).
  • Demonstrated experience with structured student advising as well as management of student programming in a higher education setting, including development and implementation of advising and student activities programs.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Job Competencies
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and set priorities required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to deal with urgent situations independently and triage student issues and concerns efficiently required.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and giving presentations required.
  • Strong computer skills including word processing and database experience; website management a plus.
  • Ability to learn new computer programs required.
  • Demonstrated high professional and ethical standards, and the ability to handle confidential or sensitive information required.
  • Ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule; able to travel to a national meeting yearly.
  • Ability to initiate and independently plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations with multiple demands required.
  • Ability to create and maintain a respectful, collaborative team environment in line with the mission, vision, and goals of the Office of Student Affairs required.
  • Experience in medical school student affairs preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical program curricula and the demands of medical education on student performance preferred.
  • Expert understanding of best practices and professional mandates relating to student affairs administration preferred.
  • Ability with website upkeep and maintenance preferred.
