Job Description:
The Associate Director, Community-Engaged Data and Evaluation Collaborative (CEDEC) is responsible for the oversight, strategy and management of a community engagement initiative aimed at achieving mutual benefit to Brown University's educational mission and the capacity of community partners to advance their goals through data and evaluation projects. CEDEC connects Brown University courses, internships and practica, training, related programs, and additional staff and faculty resources to make them more accessible and responsive to non-profit and public organization priorities, while advancing deep, experiential learning for students and community-engaged research. The position is based in the Swearer Center but works closely with multiple campus units committed to CEDEC. The position develops and manages strategies and systems that scale and connect CEDEC across a growing set of campus partners, which currently include the Annenberg Institute for School Reform, Brown University Library, Center for Computation and Visualization, Data Science Institute, Department of Africana Studies, School of Public Health, School of Professional Studies, and Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs.
The Associate Director is responsible for the integrity and rigor of the Community-Engaged Data and Evaluation Collaborative (CEDEC); developing community partner, faculty/staff and student outreach and recruitment strategies, professional development opportunities, and matchmaking or application processes; supporting operational systems, documentation, assessment, and communications functions related to CEDEC; and ensuring alignment with community priorities, the Swearer Center's strategic plan and the university's Community Engagement Agenda. This position works with Swearer Center and university colleagues to cultivate and sustain strategic partnerships internal and external to Brown, including connecting CEDEC with other initiatives that seek to advance community-engaged teaching and research. The Associate Director also collaborates with and builds the capacity of others to offer community partner consultations, advise and prepare engaged students, coordinate project scoping, logistics and follow-through, and track contacts, university resources, community initiatives/projects, and potential and actual matches. The position serves as a university-wide resource on the Rhode Island data ecosystem, data and evaluation partnerships and the development of community-engaged courses and research proposals related to local partners' priorities. Responsibilities may also include teaching a course and/or being a guest speaker in relevant courses.
The position may supervise 1-4 professional staff members and up to 12 graduate and undergraduate student employees, and reports to a Director-level position. Decisions made by this position can impact programs, functional areas within the Swearer Center, and some portfolio-specific decisions may impact the University. The position provides feedback and direction to campus partnerships and initiatives in regard to budgets, goals, tasks, and overall strategy.
