Job Description:

The Assistant Director implements and manages high-impact mentoring, career, and life-design programs for alumni, parents, and friends of Brown, as well as volunteer roles. This includes managing the Women's Launch Pad (WLP) and other mentoring, life design, and career initiatives that harness the time and talent of Brown alumni, family, and friends in service to students and the University community.

Reporting to the Director of Career and Life Design, the Assistant Director will collaborate on mentoring and career-related programming with partners in Alumni Relations and other University stakeholders, including the Center for Career Exploration and student-focused centers and offices. In addition, the Assistant Director will work with the team's Director to execute and advance mentoring initiatives, serving as an operational resource in mentoring program delivery. These engagement programs offer ways for alumni to connect and reconnect with the University, peers, and students with the ultimate goal of providing a positive Brown experience.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field such as development, career services, alumni program management, career programming or advising, and/or event planning.


Job Competencies
  • Demonstrated experience and success in strategy development, project coordination, and event planning.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with finesse in interacting with senior administration and high-profile alumni. A strong relationship builder who is diplomatic and experienced in designing and implementing complex plans.
  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated success in project coordination and event planning.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet aggressive timelines and challenging deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience with CRM systems and successfully managing customer engagements to completion and customer satisfaction. Working knowledge of the Windows environment, including: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, electronic mail, calendars, mainframe, and the internet.
  • Creative problem-solving with a track record of approaching projects collaboratively, including highly diverse sets of stakeholders. Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to present effectively to small and large groups.
  • Meticulous attention to detail. Strong project management and problem-solving skills. Must be able and willing to work occasional evenings and weekends. Often work is required during Memorial Day Weekend.
  • Given the nature of the work and the high level of integrity expected of most members of the constituency, a high level of integrity, tact, and discretion is required to handle confidential donor/prospect information.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing or managing mentorship, career, or life design programming is highly desired.
  • Experience in a higher education or non-profit setting.
  • Knowledge of Brown University values.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
