Lab Aide

Job Summary

Performs laboratory techniques and experiments under the supervision of the principal investigator. Prepares cell lysates from yeast or mammalian cultures, performs molecular biology techniques, prepares growth media and maintains stock of lab consumables.

  • Bachelor's degree with Biology, Biochemistry or other equivalent scientific discipline as the major.
  • Previous laboratory experience is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated team orientation, strong organizational skills and effective communication skills.
  • Highly motivated toward discovery and application of findings to human health.
  • Good working knowledge of lab procedures and the basic concepts in Biology and Chemistry.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.

    Responsibilities
    Prepares yeast or mammalian cell lysates and growth media. (35%) Assists the Principal Investigator in nucleic acid or protein isolation and purification (10%) Performs molecular and cell biology techniques: PCR, immunofluorescence and immunoblotting Maintains laboratory stocks of sterile microfuge tubes, culture tubes, tips and replica-plating cloth (35%) Maintains accurate and detailed experimental records (10%)

    Minimum Qualifications
    This is an entry level position and on the job training is provided. The ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions; the ability to keep accurate records; and demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

    A general knowledge of laboratory procedures, equipment and terminology; the ability to operate and care for laboratory equipment; and a knowledge of appropriate specimen handling techniques preferred.
