Position Announcement

Utah Valley University is seeking two Assistant Professors of Finance to join a dynamic, student-centered academic community committed to excellence in teaching and professional preparation. This role offers the opportunity to teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses across multiple instructional modalities, equipping students with the analytical and practical skills needed to succeed in today's financial landscape. Summary of Responsibilities

Maintain a student-centered approach to teaching and learning - advise and mentor students, including recommending students for advancement and graduation, develop and prepare instructional materials, including syllabi, exams, course outlines, and instructional resources, evaluate student learning using written, verbal, practical, and performance-based assessments, maintain and submit accurate, timely records related to student performance and accountability, supervise assigned extracurricular activities in support of student engagement and program objectives.
Teach undergraduate and graduate finance courses across multiple instructional modalities - plan, prepare, and deliver courses aligned with approved curricula and measurable learning objectives; instruct, manage, and supervise individuals and groups to support student engagement and learning outcome; employ effective pedagogical methods, including lectures, discussions, demonstrations, visual aids, experiential learning, individualized instruction, and online delivery.
Collaborate with the department chair, faculty, staff, and advisers to support and sustain an effective academic program; serve on departmental and university committees and participate in faculty and related meetings as assigned.
Maintain an active research agenda to sustain Scholarly Academic (SA) status in accordance with institutional and AACSB accreditation requirements
Additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Ph.D. from an AACSB accredited university in Finance or a closely related field. ABD may apply.

Preferred Qualifications

Obtained widely recognized industry certification(s), including, but not limited to: Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM), Chartered Investment Counselor (CIC), Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA), etc.
Experience in finance analysis.
Proficiency in programing, preferably using R and/or Python.

Knowledge

Demonstrated subject-matter expertise in finance.
Knowledge in evidence-based pedagogical strategies and instructional technologies that support student learning and assurance of learning (AoL) outcomes.
Knowledge of student engagement, classroom management, motivation, and assessment.
Knowledge in curriculum development, assessment, and program review in support of AACSB accreditation and academic excellence.

Skills

Demonstrated record of scholarly academic activity or clear potential for sustained, high-quality intellectual contributions consistent with AACSB standards for Scholarly Academic (SA) faculty status.
Proven skill to teach effectively across instructional modalities-including face-to-face, online, and synchronous remote formats-with demonstrated adaptability, student engagement strategies, and modality-appropriate course design.
Evidence of effective teaching and documented impact on student learning, supported by multiple measures (e.g., student evaluations, peer reviews, learning assessments).

Abilities

Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and effectively with students, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
Ability to apply general principles and disciplinary knowledge effectively to specific conditions.
Ability to follow written and verbal procedures and instructions with accuracy, consistency, and professional judgment.
Ability to engage and support students in multiple modalities, including face-to-face and synchronous and/or remote participation.
Ability to deliver high-quality instruction consistent with AACSB standards.
