Position Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE (10 Months) Tenure Track position as an Instructor of English, (Enlace) in the Division of Language Arts located at Evergreen Valley College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

This position is represented by the San Jose/Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teach a 100% load in the field of English composition and literature, including English courses offered to students in the Enlace Program. Course assignments will include courses in, but not limited to, college-level composition and introductory literature.

2. Collaborate with the Enlace Program Coordinator on the Enlace Mentoring component and work in a team effort with Enlace faculty and staff to develop, implement, and evaluate retention strategies.

3. Attend and participate in Enlace Program campus and community activities.

4. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

5. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

6. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as: participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

7. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

8. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as: course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline/department or district.

9. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

10. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

11. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

12. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

13. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.


Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Masters in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or Composition

OR

Bachelors in any of the above AND Masters in Linguistics, TESL, Speech, Education with a specialization in Reading, Creative Writing, or Journalism

1. Has skills in developing cross-cultural and anti-racist communication, collaboration, and pedagogy, particularly for Latinx students.

2. Has experience in or has demonstrated commitment to extending awareness of opportunities and strategies in achieving success for Latinx and other students of communities historically underrepresented and underserved in higher education.

3. Has experience or has demonstrated commitment to teaching, supporting, and/or mentoring Latinx and other students of communities historically underrepresented and underserved in higher education.

4. Course completion or certificate within past five years demonstrating competency in skills and principles of effective online course design.

5. Bilingual/biliterate in Spanish and English.

    Salary Range:
    $95,629 to $131,271 Entry Level Annual Salary (Academic Salary Schedule 2025-2026); Maximum Salary Potential $170,322. Note: Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.

    Benefits:
    In addition to the salary, this position qualifies for the choice of one of the Districts excellent Health Benefits and Welfare plans, which the premium cost is 100% paid by the District for the employee and their eligible dependents, and one health plan costing an estimated $60,000 for the District for fiscal year 2025-2026. We offer two medical plans (Anthem Blue Cross [PPO] and Kaiser Permanente (HMO]); dental (Delta Dental PPO); vision (VSP Choice); life insurance for the employee (The Lincoln); life insurance for eligible dependents (The Lincoln); a long term disability/income protection plan (The Lincoln); and an employee assistance plan (Anthem EAP).

    In addition, the District contributes an additional 19.10% of the employees salary towards an eligible employees pension (CalSTRS).

    Employees may also elect to participate in optional plans including purchasing additional life insurance for themselves and their eligible dependent(s); enroll in a medical, transportation, and/or dependent care Flexible Spending Account(s) (with the $4 monthly administrative fee paid by the District); and set pre-taxed dollars aside to supplement their pension in a 403b (tax shelter annuity) and/or a 457 (deferred compensation) plan(s).

    Faculty also receive paid sick leave.
