Job Summary
The David Eccles School of Business is seeking a part-time Career Advancement Coach to support the full-time manager in delivering, maintaining, and further developing an existing comprehensive and innovative Career Advancement program. The target audience is students in the three working professional MBA programs (Executive MBA (weekend), Professional MBA (evening), and MBA Online), with an emphasis on the PMBA and MBAO populations. This includes working across MBA teams to ensure effective coaching for professional development, career advancement, job search, and entrepreneurship.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of career coaching, career paths, and extensive knowledge of the employment market and corporate hiring practices. This individual will also collaborate with the Employer Relations team, aimed at increasing employment opportunities for students and promoting networking and recruiting opportunities.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the full-time Career Advancement Manager to understand the current processes, benchmarks, resources, programming, and needs of students
- Proactively develop relationships with current PMBA and MBAO students to engage, promote coaching and progress towards career goals
- Introduce coaching and support them getting started, sharing key career benchmarks and resources as needed
- Proactively communicate and engage with students to share the value of Career Advancement Services and career coaching in various media (webinars/ presentations, Canvas program courses, program brochures, student info emails, etc.)
Minimum Qualifications
EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
Requires a bachelor's (or equivalency) + 6 years or a master's (or equivalency) + 4 years of directly related work experience.
Preferences
- 5 or more years post-undergrad work experience as a career coach, corporate recruiting, or certified coach
- Excels at relationship building, active listening, asking open-ended questions, providing individualized, forward-focused feedback
- Adaptable and respectful working across a breadth of graduate student identities, ages, and life experiences
- Current and competent about resume editing and LinkedIn profile optimization for recruiter screening
- Understands how AI is impacting the hiring process
- Experience providing effective mock interview feedback for early to mid-career professionals
- Knowledgeable about Core Career Competencies
- Experience with career and coaching assessment tools like Gallup StrengthsFinder, Career Leader, DISC, or similar
- Comfortable public speaking and presenting to large groups
- A client-oriented attitude, fantastic customer service ethic, and high expectations for quality.
- Values collaboration, and understands the importance of systems thinking and stakeholder engagement within an organization
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a variety of students at all career levels, faculty, staff and Eccles/ university colleagues
- A warm and friendly personality and a highly developed sense of empathy and humor.
- Belief in and respect for the value of Higher Education
- Approach responsibilities of position proactively in a self-sufficient way, with excellent time management
- Exhibits a growth mindset
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Experienced Zoom interface user
- Experience working in Higher Education; even better if it's within a Business School
- Demonstrated success in prospect and client/ student engagement with strong results in motivating people to take action
- Understands the drivers of college rankings data
- A track record of measurable results
- Past or present member of MBA CSEA, NACE, MPACE, NACADA or similar
- Certified, or working towards a Coaching certification through the International Coaching Federation (ICF), Co-Active Coaching, Appreciative Advising, or similar
- Certified in Gallup StrengthsFinder
- Familiarity with Canvas
- Experience with Salesforce or 12Twenty a plus

Full Time or Part Time? Part Time
Work Schedule Summary: Able to work 2 evenings per week, and ~2 Saturdays per semester. We will create a schedule that aligns with both parties needs, with possible schedule adaptations to attend student-facing events.This position is fully on-site and not eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements. As an "essential" campus role, the employee is required to work in person at the University of Utah to support students, faculty, and staff directly.
