Job Description:

The Research Assistant at the School of Public Health's Department of Health Services Policy & Practice joins a vibrant team supporting the activities of the Department and the Center for Advancing Health Policy through Research. The Research Assistant is involved in health services research and evidence translation to better understand and develop policies that will lower spending growth, improve patient outcomes, and drive structural change in U.S. health care delivery. Core topic areas include payment reform, the evolving landscape of Medicare and Medicare Advantage, commercial price growth, health care market structures including the impacts of consolidation and private equity ownership, and state efforts to address affordability and value.

The Research Assistant position is ideal for candidates with an interest in health law, health policy, and related fields and who have plans for law school studies after working as a Research Assistant for 1-2 years. The position works closely with center Professors (PIs) and other research team members to support activities that ensure the center's research findings are well positioned to impact policy. The position works collaboratively with faculty-led teams in a dynamic environment that encourages independent thinking, problem solving, and collegiality.

Job Qualifications

Education/Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field and 1 to 2 research years experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. 1 year experience in health policy research (or related field). Coursework in related fields can substitute for experience.

Job Competencies

  • Ability to set goals and work independently to manage both short- and long-term responsibilities.

  • Flexibility to adapt to changing work conditions.

  • Excellent organizational skills with keen attention to detail.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Computer skills (word processing, data management, Power Point, reference manager).

  • Proficiency with analytic software including but not limited to Excel.

    This is a hybrid position.

    All offers of employment are contingent upon a criminal background check and education verification that are satisfactory to Brown University. This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 6/30/2028 which may be extended based upon available funding.
