Help Desk Consultant Associate (HR Title: Help Desk Support)



Hourly Range:

$27.30 per hour

About the Position:

Primary responsibilities include providing customer service to students, faculty, and staff of the University in relation to technology questions and problems reported. Front line support is provided in person, on the phone and responding to chat or ticket requests. Individual will be responsible for troubleshooting and triaging computer hardware and software issues, loading software, configuring computer software, peripherals, and mobile devices, and providing support for a large number of applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Responding to technology questions and problems encountered via help desk channels

  • Participation in career development activities to expand knowledge through technical and professional training

  • Some evening/weekend hours would be required. Would also be on call approximately 3 weeks out of the year for after hour emergencies



Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

One to two years of experience in computer support (both MAC & PC Platforms) and customer support experience via phone is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Candidate must demonstrate strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate broadly across the University and develop and maintain effective relationships with a wide range of constituencies. Must also demonstrate strong written communication skills.

Candidate must possess strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and analyze problems, as well as devise solutions. Must also have strong organizational, planning and time management skills.

Candidate must be able to provide basic application support for specialized applications pertaining to client computer install and support.

Candidate must have a strong ability to learn new technologies and apply knowledge in support of customers.

Candidate ability to have a solid understanding of SMU supported software applications (Microsoft Operating System and Office Suite, Apple Operating system standard applications, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, and other applications deployed on the SMU campus) is preferred.

  • Sit for long periods of time
