This position will be responsible for processing, tracking, and adhering to deadlines of all Career Technical Education (CTE) grant funded purchases. The Buyer is an integral member of the CTE team, helping to move innovative grant funded ideas to fruition by way of the purchasing process, and thus assisting in the alignment of classroom technology, supplies, and equipment to industry standards. This is a categorically-funded position. We are looking for someone who is a team player, strives for attention to detail, and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment.

General Description
Under general direction, purchases equipment, supplies, materials and services for the District, and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Duties


Representative Duties:
  • Reviews requisitions to evaluate type of purchase, possible vendors, standard product requirements and related factors
  • Reviews to determine need for bid or quotation
  • Prepares appropriate documents to accomplish proper action
  • Prepares bid specifications
  • Coordinates input from departments as appropriate
  • Locates sources of supply and plans orders
  • Evaluates bid results for conformance with specifications, and makes recommendation to the Director for purchase
  • Sets up and maintains blanket (open) purchase orders
  • Reviews releases against commodities for which responsible
  • Provide back up for the warehouse and mail room as needed
  • Assists with fixed assets and inventory
  • Processes on-line orders and Cal-Card payment applications
  • Other related duties as assigned

Knowledge of:
  • Basic purchasing principles and practices
  • Common sources of vendors, contractors, materials, and supplies
  • Data entry and retrieval of information from Local Area Network and Management Software, Colleague
  • Relational database and text processing procedures for recordkeeping
  • MS Word, Excel, and MS Outlook at an intermediate level
  • Office methods and procedures for recordkeeping
  • Specification writing, bid operation and evaluation

Ability to:
  • Analyze requisitions and prepare product specifications and contracts
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with the public and District staff in the course of daily work
  • Effectively navigate the Internet for best product value
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Organize and prioritize workload for efficient management of time
  • Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues.


Typical Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications:
  • An associate's degree
    OR
  • High school diploma OR GED AND three (3) years of applicable experience
    OR
  • The equivalent education and experience
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Desired:
  • C.P.M. or APP preferred
