The Mehrotra Institute seeks a Director of Community Engagement to lead the Institutes external presence and convening strategy. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role owns institute image/reputation and communications strategy and execution, public events and conferences, audience growth across channels, and sponsor/donor management for Institute programming. The Mehrotra Institute is a new and growing institute. The Director of Community Engagement will build the Institutes external presence from the ground up, establishing identity standards, creating scalable communications and event systems, and driving audience growth in a dynamic, fast-moving environment. This role is responsible for delivering high-quality events and communications that advance the Institutes mission and demonstrate measurable impact. The ideal candidate is a builder who blends strategic communications, high-quality convening production/event management in partnership with the central Questrom Marketing & Events planning team, and partnership stewardship. They are audience-focused, comfortable with ambiguity, and able to create repeatable systems that scale while delivering polished, mission-aligned outputs that enhance the Institutes credibility and reach. The Director collaborates closely with the Faculty Director, Director of Research, Director of Products and Strategic Initiatives, and Director of Administration.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree required. 7+ years of experience in communications, events, marketing, partnerships, or related leadership roles, ideally in higher education, research, media, or mission-driven organizations. Demonstrated success delivering complex events and managing external stakeholders and VIP speakers. Strong strategic communications capability, including channel planning and performance measurement. Experience managing sponsorships, donor stewardship, or partner deliverables. Excellent writing and editing skills; confident presenting and representing an organization publicly. Experience managing complex projects and brand development/management. Experience working with CRM tools and audience segmentation strategies.
