POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing the technical skills, instruction, and evaluation to support the use of simulation for the College of Nursing. Coordinate and facilitate simulation experiential learning activities and opportunities for students in the College of Nursing. Responsible for assisting faculty in creating, preparing, delivering, and evaluating high-quality simulation experiences. Assist in developing simulation scenarios and facilitating simulation experiences applying evidence-based standards of excellence. Work with the faculty and Associate Deans' Offices to update all simulation-related experiences and curriculum.
Duties and Responsibilities:
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as the college's point-of-contact simulation resource and provide timely and effective response to simulation requests from faculty, staff, and academic partners.
Collaborate with College of Nursing faculty to continually develop and update simulation experiential learning opportunities, as well as prepare and deliver such experiences for the College's students.
Assess needs and assure integration of simulation-based activities in undergraduate and graduate curricula to meet the identified needs.
Provide reports and recommendations to the course faculty and respective Associate Deans, as appropriate.
Orient learners to the simulation environment and lead effective pre-briefing sessions. Provide orientation and continuing education for staff and faculty relative to simulation-based activities. Make recommendations related to student learning needs and equipment.
Plan, develop, instruct, and evaluate Standardized Patients. Maintain records of completion of student return demonstrations and simulation experiences.
Assist in the implementation of simulation standards and best practices and provide faculty with evidenced based guidelines to ensure positive and consistent learning experiences for students. Evaluate faculty, simulation staff, and students as necessary as related to simulation (including standards for simulation facilitation, debriefing, participant assessment, and learning evaluation).
Work with the leadership team to plan and coordinate simulation schedules that enhance clinical experiences. Oversee simulation-related procurement at both RINEC and White Hall. Supervise the Skills and Simulation Lab Specialist in rescheduling students for additional simulation when clinical site changes occur. Provide leadership for all simulation activities including pre-briefing and debriefing scenarios, and ensure efficient use of lab time.
Provide leadership at both RINEC and White Hall, supervising the Skills & Simulation Lab Specialist to facilitate simulation in White Hall. Work closely with associate dean's office to help coordinate seamless articulation between skills, simulation, virtual reality, and clinical experiences of students.
Serve as the lead in maintaining accreditation, in Teaching/Education, from the Society of Simulation in Healthcare (SSH), Council for Accreditation of Healthcare Simulation Programs. Facilitate expanded accreditation opportunities. Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards. Lead continuous, data driven, quality improvement while maintaining comprehensive records for the College's simulation education mission.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform other duties as required.
LICENSES, TOOLS, AND EQUIPMENT:
Current RI RN License or ability to obtain within six months of employment; personal computers and printers; word processing; and spreadsheet software.
