(Primary Location for Job Responsibilities) Our Kennesaw campus is located at 1000 Chastain Road NW, Kennesaw, GA 30144.

Our Marietta campus is located at 1100 South Marietta Parkway, Marietta, GA 30060.

Job Summary

Oversee and manage academic lab activities for the School of Art & Design.

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Oversees daily operations of the studios, which includes management and organization of the physical departmental space, studio(s), and operation of equipment
2. Develops technical operation and safety instructions and guides (and subsequent updates) to be included in the studio safety manuals
3. Develops, implements, communicates, maintains, enforces, and updates a safety program that complies with the Office of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), OSHA standards and best practices within the art studios
4. Identifies safety hazards and evaluate for resolution; inform and discuss with Area Head
5. Ensures that SDS forms of materials are available in the studio
6. Obtains missing forms via online investigation, requests to suppliers, and/or complies with the university system for making SDS forms available for reference in the studio
7. Ensures a safe working environment. Conduct daily and on-going evaluation of machines and equipment ensuring all are operating with the highest level of functionality and safety, making repairs as necessary and maintain equipment in the wood shop
8. Works with the Director to determine day-to-day operations, equipment and curricular needs
9. Manages resources and supplies, make necessary purchases of equipment, tools, and materials to ensure the studio is fully equipped
10. Responsible for the general appearance of the studio, extending to the appearance and cleanliness of the cabinets and shelves, floors, walls, and storage of materials in a proper place and manner
11. Prepares the studios for classes based on the specific needs of students and instructors
12. Offers presentations to students to familiarize them with any technical area, which relates to assignments of instructors
13. Provides assistance to instructors in various forms of scholarship including preparation for exhibitions and presentations
14. Conducts research to identify improvements that advance capabilities of fabrication research within the discipline

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Required Experience
On the job training available for those with experience in 3D disciplines in an academic or related setting

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
OSHA 10 (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) certification
First Aid and CPR certification
Familiarity with sculpture equipment repair and fabrication
Coursework and/or certification related to specific studio equipment such as forklifts, 3D printers, power tools, looms, printing presses, kilns, ceramics wheels, easels and chemical photo lab equipment such as enlargers and developers

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master of Fine Arts, preferred

Preferred Experience
Experience working with power tools and equipment related to sculpture and ceramics
Experience working in an educational setting
Supervisory work experience (students & part-time staff)

Proposed Salary

The salary range for this position is $16.13 to $21.30 per hour. Offers are based on relevant experience.

Able to deliver clear instruction for tool use and present accessible demonstrations on materials, tools, and safe use of each
Must be flexible and available for special projects the Art Department supports cross-disciplinary activities with other programs within the department and the University
Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and respond effectively in a fast-paced environment
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines
Able to work collaboratively with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students
Able to interact with a wide variety of constituencies on and off campus

KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of art studio equipment operation and maintenance
Demonstrated expertise in the safe operation of an academic art lab
Demonstrated knowledge of materials and techniques used in ceramics processes and practices
Demonstrated knowledge of technical and conceptual developments in the field of art and design, including 3D Printing
Demonstrated knowledge of Environmental Health and Safety regulations and best practices common in art and design production, especially pertaining to the safe use, handling, and management of a diversity of chemicals and equipment with varying levels of hazard

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem solving, independent judgment, organization, professional communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, attention to detail and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e., Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
