Job Summary

The Checo Lab at Georgia Southern University seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to contribute to ongoing research in freshwater ecology, with a primary emphasis on aquatic consumers. The successful candidate will engage in fieldwork, experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation across diverse freshwater systems. Opportunities exist to collaborate on projects involving functional feeding groups, decomposition dynamics, and trait-based approaches. This position offers strong mentorship and professional development in a supportive, interdisciplinary research environment. This role is a six-month appointment.

Employment is contingent upon funding.

Responsibilities

Conducting fieldwork across southeastern freshwater systems
Processing biological and chemical samples
Identifying macroinvertebrates
Analyzing ecological data using statistical tools
Help design experiments, prepare manuscripts, mentor students, and support lab operations including equipment maintenance and safety compliance

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements

Doctoral Degree (PhD or equivalent)

Required Experience

Experience working in aquatic ecosystems (streams, rivers, floodplains, wetlands) with a preference for systems in the southeastern USA

Proposed Salary

Annual Salary Amount: $54,000.00

This is an exempt position paid on a monthly basis.

Employment in this position is limited to a period of up to six months from the date of hire.
