ABOUT THE POSITION

Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one full-time tenure Vocational Nursing - Geriatrics and General Practice Professor commencing with the Fall 2026 semester. The primary teaching assignment involves instruction in theory, skills laboratory as well as clinical practice, with emphasis on general nursing practice to include medical/surgical nursing and geriatric nursing. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities assuming leadership roles both within the department and in the institution as a whole; collaboration across disciplines and the leveraging of student support resources; and participation in ongoing professional development. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the the Trades, Technology & Community Learning campus or other college teaching locations. The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, on-line or off campus and is subject to change as needed. Faculty positions offer the opportunity to assist a diverse group of adult students in achieving their educational goals.   • Ability to effectively engage with and facilitate authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences.
  • Ability to adapt teaching pedagogy to the knowledge of each individual and class.
  • Ability to self-reflect and respond to an evidence-based assessment of student learning.
  • Demonstrated experience and commitment to integrating new technologies into the learning process, including but not limited to interactive technologies for on-campus and online courses.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.


Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's in nursing

OR
  • Bachelor's in nursing AND Master's in health education or health science

OR
  • the equivalent

OR
  • the minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing.

All candidates must demonstrate:

Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current enrollment in or completion of a Master's of Nursing degree program. Educational and/or instructional preparation in medical/surgical nursing.
  • Evidence of an ability to address the instructional needs of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of academic skills
  • Evidence of the ability to use a variety of teaching, strategies that encourage retention while successfully challenging diverse student populations.
  • Evidence of participation in student success initiatives in post-secondary setting.
  • Meet the requirements of the BVNPT for program Accreditation
  • Actively participate in team teaching.
  • Ability to be self-directed to effectively meet course requirements
  • Experience with pediatric and obstetrics nursing.
  • Evidence of completion of a course in adult learning theory and/or andragogy, or willingness to complete such coursework upon hire.
