Postdoctoral Researcher in Structural Virology/Immunology

Postdoctoral Researcher in Structural Virology/Immunology
Location: University of Pennsylvania, Perelman School of Medicine
Open Date: Dec 08, 2025
Deadline:
The Roark Laboratory is opening at the Perelman School of Medicine (Department of Microbiology) in January 2026 and is accepting applications from highly motivated structural biologists for a postdoctoral research position.
Our lab uses single-particle cryogenic electron microscopy (cryoEM) analysis of viral glycoproteins to define cellular entry and immune evasion mechanisms, including the characterization of neutralizing antibodies that can overcome these processes. We then leverage this structural and functional information to rationally design biotherapeutics and immunogens against viruses that have resisted standard vaccine approaches. We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to pursue one of several structural vaccinology projects for HIV and herpes simplex virus.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in all facets of the cryoEM structure determination pipeline (from purification of protein to model building and refinement). Experience in microbiology is strongly preferred. Since this a newly established lab, the candidate must be ready and willing to work closely with the PI to cultivate a successful research program and environment.
Inidividuals needing visa sponshorship are welcome to apply.
Qualifications
- PhD in biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology, or related fields.
- Expertise in cryoEM structure determination.
- Strong publication record, including first-author publications.
- Individuals with experience in microbiology are highly encouraged to apply.
Application Instructions
Please provide all of the following through Interfolio:
- Cover letter including your specific interest in the lab and a description of previous research.
