Position Summary

The Center for Engaged Learning's Managing Editor oversees the Center's ongoing publishing operations-including two book series, open access web resources, and an active blog-to produce peer-reviewed publications on engaged learning that feature work from the Center's research seminars and think tanks, along with other international research on high-impact educational practices. Collaborating with the Director and the Executive Director, the Managing Editor coordinates production schedules and correspondence; oversees copyediting and page design for print and online publications; ensures final drafts are consistent with the Center's editorial and style guide, including accessibility guidelines; oversees page design of online publications; contributes to the development and editing of open access resources; maintains digital files for the Center's previously published books; and assists with the promotion of the Center's publications.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in professional writing, editing, journalism, English, communications, or related field. Minimum of 3 years work experience. At least three years of editing, production, and workflow management experience in print and digital content platforms.

Job Duties
  • Oversees production of the Center's Open Access Book series, including but not limited to copyediting manuscripts, designing page layouts, facilitating author review of proofs, designing covers, and ensuring books adhere to the Center's style guide and follow accessibility guidelines.
  • Develops book websites and promotional materials for books in both of the Center's series.
  • Manages production of blog posts and online resources after editorial review, including copyediting, featured and social images development, and entry into WordPress.
  • Contributes to content creation for the Center's blog and broader web content.
  • Coordinates correspondence with series authors and digital file management for book projects.
  • Supervises and mentors publishing interns (student employees).
