CitySpace at The Lavine Broadcast Center is the embodiment of WBUR's mission to inform, challenge and enrich the human experience. Our events bring guests inside our journalism with luminaries from Boston and beyond.

As an Events Coordinator, you will work closely with a small editorial team to execute all logistics necessary to ensure successful events.

Primary duties include managing the front of house, serving as customer service lead, supporting the development of social media strategy and overseeing brand activation strategy for community events. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a passion for community engagement who exhibits strong attention to detail, can balance multiple projects, and is solutions-oriented.

(30%) Front of House Manager duties:
  • Responsible for ensuring event spaces are ready to welcome guests and performers (i.e. box office team is ready to welcome guests, rooms have been prepared according to designated layout, stage is equipped and set according to plans, green room is adequately stocked) as well as 'opening doors' for events and ensuring great welcoming experience for guests during events. As needed, support box office.
  • Manage Complimentary Ticket program, partner with Development and Business Partnership teams to arrange reserved seating for VIPs including WBUR donors, board members, sponsors and more. (20%) Manage speaker and vendor logistics:
  • Responsible for negotiating and executing all performance contacts. Manage all speaker/talent arrangements including travel, lodging, honoraria, parking, riders and green room requests.
  • Responsible for vendor management logistics. Oversees concessions schedule, purchasing and direct vendor staff.
  • Partner with Business Partnerships, Membership and Development departments to secure high-end catering trade for special events.
  • Responsible for invoice processing and payments, reporting profit and loss statements for all events.


(20%) Promotion of events:
  • Responsible for content creation, social media channels, post-event posting on Instagram and Facebook. Manage paid advertising.
  • Develop and oversee brand activation strategy for external events ("CitySpace in the Community") such as The Boston Book Festival, The Moth Mainstage, and the Independent Film Festival.


(10%) CitySpace customer service lead:
  • Review and respond to all emails and box office phone calls. Draft and send all pre-show emails, post-event surveys and communicate feedback to the team. Initiate contact with Boston University police in the event of security concerns or unruly patrons.


(10%) Oversee work study program. Responsible for student workers at box office throughout events.

(5%) Partner with Facilities to purchase and ensure CitySpace supplies are stocked.



Required Skills
What Youll Need to Succeed:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent/relevant experience
  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience


Capabilities and Proficiencies

  • An excitement about WBURs mission to provide an essential public good: high-quality local journalism and enriching experiences that foster understanding, connection and community.
  • An enthusiasm for event planning and production as well as community engagement
  • Outgoing, friendly, and welcoming with strong customer service skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google (Docs, Sheets, Slides) tools.
  • Proficiency with social media tools including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, TikTok, LinkedIn).
  • Proficiency with web content management and email marketing systems such as WordPress, MailChimp, etc.
