The College at Brockport is accepting applications for a Director, Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching and Scholarship (CELT). Reporting to the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs, the Director will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and leading faculty development programming in support of The College at Brockport's mission, vision and values. This is a full-time, 12 month position.

Major Responsibilities


  • Provides strategic leadership and vision for the continuous improvement of teaching and learning at The College at Brockport.

  • The Director will promote the scholarship of teaching, learning and engagement, guide appropriate pedagogies, and support the implementation of programmatic and student learning assessment.

  • Supervises CELT staff including the Assistant Director, Learning Support Team; one half time Office Assistant 1; a part-time scholarship and research support member; an online librarian; and three instructional designers.

  • Maintains the CELT website and communications related to faculty development with the College faculty.

  • Collaborates with CELT Advisory Board, campus committees, IT and Media Services.

  • Prepares reports on CELT's activities as required.

  • Applies for external funding to support innovative programs and faculty development.

  • Oversees the Chancellor's Award Committee and Advising Awards.

  • Maintains current expertise in the field.

  • Develops strategies, services and support for faculty and staff for effective practices and student success.

  • Designs, conducts and evaluates faculty development programs including faculty learning communities, workshops and seminars that will create cross-campus partnerships and foster faculty communities around topics of common interest.

  • Facilitates new initiatives and encourages collaborations among the various curricular and co-curricular programs that support effective teaching and learning on campus through a variety of instructional modalities.

  • Promotes a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and student learning.

  • Facilitates and supports campus collaborations in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

  • Provides leadership and planning for all instructional and curricular development activities designed to support the College's teaching community.

  • Promotes the infusing of diversity and global learning into the curriculum and classroom across campus.

  • Coordinates faculty attending off-campus development events related to teaching and learning/professional development.

  • Provides opportunities for faculty to have individual consultation on improvement of classroom instruction.

  • Coordinates training to faculty in use of instructional technology in the classroom and online.

  • Oversees online education at the College including chairing the Hybrid Online Support Team Committee.

  • Maintains the faculty development center.

  • Teaches one course per year in their discipline.

  • Manages the office's budget.

    Required Qualifications


    Master's degree in an academic discipline, faculty development or a closely related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; experience teaching at the college or university level at an accredited institution; knowledge of outcomes-based curricular design, program development, assessment of learning outcomes, student-centered learning and learning theories, and technology enhanced teaching and learning; demonstrated collaborative leadership and management skills, and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple academic and administrative units; progressive experience in managing staff and resources; demonstrated ability to effectively manage campus projects and initiatives; effective verbal and written communication skills; and, ability to effectively work in a culturally diverse environment.

    Preferred Qualifications


    Doctoral or terminal degree in an academic discipline, faculty development or a closely related field by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; record of scholarship with a focus on teaching and learning; knowledge of course management systems and effective online teaching methodologies; knowledge and use of innovative teaching approaches (e.g. collaborative learning, civic learning and engagement, problem based learning); online teaching experience; competence in instructional design; knowledge of assessment; and, prior experience working in a faculty development center.

  • The area features a number of technology companies, including Paychex, Xerox, and Kodak, and other large companies such as Wegmans and Excellus. The region is known for its natural beauty, including Lake Ontario, the Genesee River (with three major waterfalls in Letchworth State Park), and the Finger Lakes region with its notable vineyards and wineries.
