Job Description
The Paralegal supports the work of Boston College Law Schools Legal Services Lab and its variety of clinics. Functioning as a legal administrative assistant, the paralegal is office manager, researcher, writer, and trainer. The paralegal uses technology and computer software for managing and organizing the increasing amount of documents and data collected during cases. Because of these responsibilities, paralegals must be familiar with electronic database management and be up to date on the latest software used for electronic discovery. Electronic discovery refers to all electronic materials that are related to a trial, such as emails, data, documents, accounting databases, and websites.
- General reception (phone and walk-in) & administrative responsibilities
- Manages requests for services
- Provides referrals to appropriate legal services as needed
- Maintains the client database
- Maintains community services and legal services referral list
- Community outreach to inform community agencies and the legal service network of BCLS LAB services
- Screens and prepares intakes for the Civil Litigation Clinic. Assist the Community Enterprise Clinic, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Clinic, Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project, and Immigration Clinic with setting up new matter on CLIOMaintains Master Docket
- Performs conflict checks
- Complete legal forms
- File documents
- Interview witnesses
- Draft witness statements
- Prepare correspondence
- Paralegal is in charge of collecting clinic evaluations
- Translating & Interpreting for Spanish speaking clients & witnesses
Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $47,700 to $59,600; salary commensurate with relevant experience.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree and/or paralegal certification preferred
2 years of paralegal experience required
Experience with electronic file maintenance system required, CLIO preferred
Fluent in Spanish
