Job Summary/Basic Function:
Position Summary Information Job Summary / Basic Function:
The Library Associate performs professional and technical duties in support of the library's Archives and Special Collections department. This position reports directly to the University Archivist. The applicant must have advanced computer technical skills and an appreciation of history and preservation.

Responsibilities:
  • Works with digitization projects
  • Uploads computer files to archival software
  • Aids staff in troubleshooting computer challenges
  • Describes collections on archival software program CONTENTdm
  • Creates finding aids and box inventories
  • Maintains and enforces security procedures to ensure the safety of collections
  • Assists patrons in use of Special Collections and University Archives collections
  • Answers a variety of routine and complex reference questions
  • Must be willing to occasionally work in dusty areas on-campus and off-campus
  • Other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:
    Education:
    A relevant undergraduate degree required

    Experience:
    Experience working with HTML and XML
    Experience with digitization of documents, photographs, and rare books
    Experience working with CONTENTdm
    Experience with EAD editing in an XML editor environment
    Experience working with image editing software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop)

    Knowledge:
    Knowledge of computer systems and software
    Demonstrated knowledge of local, Texas, and Southern history

    Skills:
    Excellent verbal and written communications skills

    Abilities:
    Ability to work as team and individually with staff, students, and patrons in an academic environment
    Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

    Preferred Qualifications:
    Masters preferred

    Knowledge:
    Knowledge of computer systems and software
    Demonstrated knowledge of local, Texas, and Southern history

    Skills:
    Excellent verbal and written communications skills

    Abilities:
    Ability to work as team and individually with staff, students, and patrons in an academic environment
    Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
