ABOUT THE POSITION:

This full-time faculty position requires teaching a variety of Computer Information Systems (CIS) courses in the Business and Information Technology Department. We are looking for a candidate with expertise in CIS subjects, particularly those that are able to provide relevant understanding of small business development and operations. The successful candidate will advance the College's mission by designing and delivering high-quality programs and courses that feature engaged learning and curricula aligned to the needs of our region. The CIS faculty will bring a passion and commitment to teaching, advising, and shared governance. GCC is committed to promoting and valuing diversity. THE BUSINESS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT:

Greenfield Community College's Department of Business and Information Technology offers a variety of Associate Degrees and Certificate Programs. Disciplines coordinated and taught by the Department include Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Management, Marketing and E-Commerce, and Tourism & Hospitality. Many classrooms feature instructional technology. Faculty offices are located in a contemporary, technically-enabled Business Studio designed to accommodate student projects and study space. The Department is involved in promoting student internships, marketing consulting for community businesses, study abroad opportunities, a regional entrepreneurship competition, annual tours of business firms in New York City, and five Department-awarded Scholarships. Our Mission Statement identifies four major goals for our students: (1) To graduate and enter the job market; (2) To graduate and transfer to four-year colleges or universities; (3) To create and develop their own business enterprises; and (4) To acquire knowledge for life in our society and economy. The department insists on an academic approach that emphasizes cutting-edge developments in Business and Computer Information Systems disciplines and a practical, hands-on approach wherever possible. The Department seeks a colleague who shares these passions and who will contribute to the future direction of the Business/CIS courses and Program offerings at Greenfield Community College.


Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The CIS faculty member will teach a range of courses related to technology and business computer applications. Specific courses taught will vary based on institutional needs and the strengths and interests of the candidate, and will likely include but not be limited to Web Page Design and Construction, JavaScript, Network Workstation Setup and Maintenance, Network Server and System Administration and Security, Relational Databases, SQL, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation applications, and programming languages which can include Java, C++, Visual Basic.NET, and possibly others. Additionally, this faculty member will contribute to our Marketing, Web Design, E-Commerce, and Entrepreneurship programs and certificates through delivery of courses in Web Page Design and Construction and JavaScript. Candidates should examine the Department website http://www.gcc.mass.edu/bit/ for a complete listing of current course offerings. This position also includes advising, learning outcomes assessment, contributing to year-end reporting, college service, holding regular office hours, attending regularly scheduled department, division and college meetings, and involvement in shared governance. Performs other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • M.A. or M.S. in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science or related field; or significant progress toward completion of a master's degree in a relevant field plus three years practical experience in industry; or B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science or related field with at least five years practical experience in industry may be considered if the candidate can demonstrate equivalent masters level knowledge, skills and experience.
  • At least one year of successful experience teaching Computer Information Systems courses at the college level or experience providing professional training in programs in this field
  • Three years or more experience in the workforce in a technology-related capacity.
  • Experience with web design including creation of navigation systems and use of web analytics
  • Demonstrated proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and the Relational Databases
  • Experience using computer programming to solve problems in a business or non-profit setting
  • Ability to work in multiple delivery modes and platforms (MACs, PCs, tablets, etc.) and comfort working with multiple apps for these devices
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and to work effectively as a member of a team
  • Ability to provide academic advising to a required caseload of students within discipline
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with people from diverse social and cultural backgrounds, with a range of academic abilities
  • Demonstrated commitment to the community college mission

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advanced education beyond MA or MS in Computer Information Systems, Computer, or related field
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in a community college
  • Extensive user experience with business related computer applications;
  • Experience with search engine optimization and Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion in and outside of the classroom;
  • Experience cultivating and maintaining relationships with relevant community stakeholders
  • Experience with online learning: teaching and/or professional development
  • Experience developing online marketing and social media campaigns
  • Experience developing websites including setting up shopping carts

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Those selected for an interview will be required to conduct a teaching demonstration.

RANK AND SALARY: Anticipated salary range is $44,874-$68,000. The appointment salary is based on one's education and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreement classification compensation structure. Candidates are therefore advised that it is unlikely the offered salary will be at or near the top of the range.
