Job Description

The Career Services Office (CSO) at Boston College Law School is hiring an Assistant/Associate Director to join our collegial team to advise JD students and alumni regarding all aspects of career exploration and job search strategy. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential as well as a JD degree from an accredited law school.

The position of Assistant/Associate Director advises and educates JD students and alumni regarding internships and career options upon graduation in the private and public sectors for legal or legal-related positions, fellowships, judicial clerkships and alternative careers. The Assistant/Associate Director will coach his or her advisees through the job search process and train them on related skills (e.g. networking, interviewing, effective application materials). S/he will also assist the students with aligning academic courses and internships with potential career paths.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide high quality individual and group advising to approximately 750 J.D. students and alumni regarding internships and career options upon graduation in the private and public sectors for legal or legal-related positions, fellowships, judicial clerkships, and alternative or emerging careers.
  • Create, promote, facilitate and lead best-in-class training programs (in person and virtual) designed to educate students and alumni about career options, application materials, interview preparation and skills, the job search process and other related professional skills.
  • Generate and strengthen professional contacts to aid student networking efforts.
  • Monitor career trends in the legal and legal-related field.
  • Help conduct outreach to employers to generate new employment opportunities for students and recent graduates.
  • Contribute to the department's data-driven operations and report on key metrics and analytics.

Position: 00013605 - Assistant/Associate Director - Law School Career Services
Grade: 3RD

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and hiring ranges:

Assistant Director: $72,600 - $82,200; JD degree from accredited law school required and minimum two years of legal experience as a practicing attorney with experience in professional career counseling, legal recruiting, or legal marketing preferred.

Associate Director: $77,000 - $90,700; JD degree from accredited law school required, minimum of two years of legal experience as a practicing attorney required, and minimum 3 yrs. of career counseling experience.



Requirements

*Strong knowledge of best practices, techniques and standards for career counseling, coaching, advising and effective job search techniques, and of the legal and legal-related job market.

*High degree of professionalism and customer-service orientation. Excellent listening skills

*Proven ability to take initiative and multi-task, and to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment

*Outstanding oral and written communication skills including presentation skills

*Must have ability to learn and adapt quickly to technology

Preferred:

*Assistant - Prior experience in professional career counseling, legal recruiting or similar role preferred

*Prior experience in a career services department of a law school or university or in a legal or corporate recruitment setting.

*Advanced knowledge of MS Office Platforms, social media/LinkedIn, Symplicity and OSCAR (Online System for Clerkship Application and Review).
