The School of Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga College of Health Education and Professional Studies invites applications for a full time, 9-month Assistant Professor, tenured-track faculty position in Education with a focus on Literacy beginning August 1, 2022. At UTC, programs include a rich opportunity to emphasize Literacy in all licensure areas. The faculty member will contribute to a rich tradition of teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, demonstrating scholarship, and providing professional service in a setting with excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Successful candidates must have a strong interest in and commitment to teacher education, collaboration, inclusion, and diversity. The School of Education is recognized as a part of an engaged metropolitan university with extensive partnerships with community organizations.

Successful candidates will possess the following requirements:

Doctorate in Education with a concentration in Literacy or closely-related field. Individuals who are (ABD) will be considered for faculty positions at UTC; however, the degree must be awarded within twelve months of the first semester of employment.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Three or more years experience in a middle and/or secondary classroom
  • Experience with and/or willingness to prepare preservice teachers to successfully teach middle/secondary students through effective coaching
  • Evidence of the ability to collaborate with partners and stakeholders
  • Demonstrate potential for excellence in instruction and supervision
  • Willingness to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction
  • Experience with edTPA and an ability to support teacher candidates
  • Willingness to assist in reaching additional goals of UTC's Strategic Plan, including a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion
  • Ability to teach introductory/advanced courses in literacy
  • Candidates should also be willing to engage in a variety of instructional modalities, including online instruction


SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience and knowledge in CAEP and/or state accreditation processes
  • Experience or willingness to support students in the clinical experiences


REQUIREMENTS:
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in ESL, literacy, diversity, inclusion and other general education courses as needed in a teaching-focused department
  • Engage in an active scholarship and service
  • Supervise and plan field experiences and/or residency/internship experiences
  • Participate in service to the university, community and profession
  • Advise undergraduate and graduate students
  • Demonstrate a commitment to cultural diversity collaboration, and social justice
