Assistant/Associate/Professor -- Dependent upon Qualifications

The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CSD) in the College of Health at the University of Utah invites applications for a full-time tenure-line faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027, or as negotiated. We seek an innovative scholar whose research, teaching, and service activities will contribute to the department's mission of advancing discovery, education, and clinical practice in communication sciences and disorders.

The Department is among the nation's longstanding academic programs in speech-language pathology and audiology and will celebrate its centennial in 2027. Since its founding, the Department has maintained a strong tradition of excellence in education, research, and clinical service, and continues to expand its national impact through innovative scholarship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and community engagement.

Position Overview
The Department seeks to recruit a scholar with expertise in one or more of the following areas:
* Voice disorders
* Airway-related disorders
* Swallowing disorders (dysphagia)
* Neuromotor speech disorders
* Speech, voice, or swallowing biomarkers
* Digital health technologies
* Artificial intelligence and computational approaches to communication disorders
* Related areas of communication sciences and disorders

The Department is particularly interested in candidates whose scholarship complements current strengths in voice, airway, swallowing, neuromotor communication disorders, movement disorders, and translational rehabilitation science. Applicants employing clinical, translational, engineering, computational, behavioral, implementation science, or team-science approaches are especially encouraged to apply.

We seek a candidate who will strengthen the Department's interdisciplinary research mission through the development or expansion of a competitive, externally fundable research program and who can contribute to large-scale collaborative research initiatives involving faculty across the University of Utah research enterprise.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
* Establish, maintain, and grow an internationally recognized program of research.
* Pursue and sustain extramural funding from federal agencies, foundations, industry, and/or other external sources.
* Conduct innovative research that advances scientific knowledge and improves outcomes for individuals with communication, voice, airway, swallowing, and/or neuromotor speech disorders.
* Collaborate with faculty across the Department, College, University, and University of Utah Health.
* Teach and mentor students in undergraduate, master's, doctoral, and postdoctoral training programs, consistent with expertise and departmental needs.
* Mentor graduate students and trainees in research, scholarship, and professional development.
* Participate in departmental, college, university, and professional service activities.
* Contribute to an academic community that values collaboration, mentorship, innovation, and belonging.

Department Overview
The mission of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders is to develop competent and caring audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech-language-hearing scientists; advance basic and clinical research; deliver exceptional clinical services; and provide outstanding educational experiences for students. As a research-intensive department with national and global reach, it is committed to the highest standards of teaching, scholarship, clinical service, and scientific discovery.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must possess:
* An earned PhD, or equivalent research doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, Speech and Hearing Science, Rehabilitation Science, Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Public Health, or a closely related field.
* Evidence of scholarly productivity and research excellence appropriate for rank.
* Demonstrated potential for, or record of, obtaining external research funding.
* Commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
* Eligibility to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
* Established record of externally funded research.
* Expertise in voice, airway, swallowing, neuromotor speech, or related disorders.
* Demonstrated success in interdisciplinary and team-based research.
* Research incorporating innovative methodologies such as biomechanics, digital health technologies, artificial intelligence, machine learning, neuroimaging, computational modeling, clinical outcomes research, implementation science, or precision medicine.
* Eligibility for ASHA certification and/or speech-language pathology licensure where relevant.
* Experience mentoring graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or junior investigators.
* Experience contributing to multi-site, programmatic, or center-level research initiatives.

Rank and Compensation
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications, experience, and scholarly accomplishments. Competitive start-up support and research resources will be provided consistent with University policies and available resources.
