Job Summary

Dr. Carson DeFries is looking to hire a Graduate Student NoTB (job code 1632).
This position is not eligible for the Graduate Tuition Benefit Program.

Compensation: This position is for up to 10 hours per week and may cover the remainder of fall semester and spring semester. The appointment period, FTE, and total compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's availability and the needs of the project. Total compensation will not exceed $10,750 through June 30, 2027.

Applicants should be eligible for employment and actively enrolled as College of Social Work graduate students throughout the appointment period.

Responsibilities

Conduct literature searches across academic databases (e.g., PsycINFO, PubMed, Web of Science) and maintain organized records of search strategies and results
Summarize research articles and produce concise, accurate annotations or evidence tables
Assist with data management, including cleaning datasets, entering information, checking for accuracy, and maintaining documentation
Prepare materials for research activities, including recruitment documents, consent forms, interview guides, and study protocols
Contribute to project coordination, including scheduling meetings, tracking deadlines, and communicating with collaborators at partner universities
Help develop and maintain spreadsheets, codebooks, extraction forms, and other organizational tools for systematic or scoping reviews
Assist with manuscript preparation, including proofreading, formatting references, checking citations, and reviewing drafts for clarity and consistency
Compile information on funding opportunities, eligibility criteria, and deadlines to support grant planning
Complete routine administrative tasks with reliability and attention to detail (file organization, document formatting, version control)
Respond promptly to communication, ask clarifying questions when needed, and maintain a collaborative, professional working style
Demonstrate initiative by identifying small tasks that need attention and proposing helpful solutions

Minimum Qualifications

Interest in aging, intergenerational connection, social isolation, or communitybased research, demonstrated through coursework, volunteer work, or personal motivation
Prior research experience (e.g., assisting with literature reviews, data collection, qualitative analysis, or applied class projects), though strong candidates without formal experience are welcome if they show initiative and willingness to learn
Experience working with older adults in community, clinical, or program settings
Understanding of social work values, personcentered approaches, and ethical considerations in research with older adults
Strong organizational habits, especially in managing documents, spreadsheets, and multi-step tasks
Excellent written communication skills, including clarity, organization, and professional tone.
Attention to detail in data entry, document formatting, citation management, and version control.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and maintain organized records of work.
Comfort working independently while also engaging collaboratively, asking clarifying questions, and providing regular updates.
Professionalism, reliability, responsiveness, and adherence to ethical standards in research.
