Job Description:

School of Nursing at Madison College is seeking a Nursing Laboratory Coordinator to join the team at our Truax Campus.

Located in the Truax Health Education Building, the Nursing Laboratory Coordinator prepares, leads, and coordinates the day-to-day functions of the nursing skills lab environment. Providing technical leadership for faculty and students, ensuring the appropriate supplies, equipment, and software are available, organized, and prepared for nursing skills classes. In addition, they also provide leadership for maintaining clean and organized nursing labs and supply rooms and ensure that lab supplies that are no longer needed are removed and disposed of in accordance with current infection control standards.

As a Nursing Laboratory Coordinator, you'll maintain expertise in real-world nursing skills to provide students with a "hands-on" learning environment and to operate complex technical equipment to support student attainment of course learning objectives. Responsible for purchasing and lab supply budget. This position is responsible for providing students with open practice lab hours to reinforce instruction in first and third semester nursing courses. This position may also support students in attending clinicals by ensuring that all students have up-to-date health requirements completed for successful clinical rotations.

Position Details:

  • Schedule: This is a full-time position scheduled for 40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year. Core working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, with occasional evening and weekend hours required to support events and lab coordinating.
  • Expected Progression: This position includes an expected progression plan. Upon meeting the outlined criteria, you will be eligible to receive a $1.00 per hour increase.
  • Benefits: Madison College provides a generous benefits package of vacation, holidays, health/vision/dental/life insurance options, and you will be able to participate in the Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS).
  • Grant Funded: This position is a renewable, grant funded position through September 30, 2027, continuation of this position is dependent on continued funding beyond this date. However, it is expected to be renewed.

Accountabilities:

  • Prepares and maintains lab spaces by setting up and taking down equipment, models and materials to support instructional needs and ensure readiness for student and faculty use.
  • Manages lab operations and staffing by overseeing scheduling, supervising student employees and ensuring effective communication between faculty and staff to optimize lab functionality.
  • Maintains lab equipment and facilities by performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting issues, coordinating repairs and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Oversees procurement and inventory management by purchasing supplies, tracking usage, maintaining budgets and collaborating with vendors to ensure labs are adequately stocked.
  • Ensures compliance with institutional policies and safety regulations by maintaining accurate records, implementing best practices and enforcing safety guidelines for lab environments.
  • Enhances instructional support by developing and revising lab procedures, coordinating lab manuals and integrating new technologies or methodologies to improve lab-based learning.
  • Arranges, plans, and prepares, lab environment for individualized learning activities by student level, faculty preference, and content area(s) to be addressed.
  • Serves as a resource for student or faculty directed skills practice.; Reinforces faculty instruction to students; Maintains open lab hours on a weekly basis to support student success in the Nursing program.
  • Trains faculty and students on lab technologies, equipment and policies and procedures of the skills lab and simulation environments.
  • Independently operates high and low fidelity skills and simulations mannequins and associated technologies. Tests equipment for functionality and maintenance concerns. Troubleshoots technical issues and resolves.
  • Adapts, implements, and maintains current and stringent health, infection control and safety practices in the lab and simulation environments.
  • Maintains purchasing process and ensures supply inventory within defined budget limits and acceptable par levels. Makes capital purchase recommendations.
  • Provides support for administrative and operational functions for the School of Nursing.
  • Assist students with completing health requirements to attend clinical.
  • Supports planning and attends campus Nursing/health events aligned with role and responsibility.
  • Supports instructors in proctoring standardized exams as well as course exams.
  • Provides lead nursing lab support for apprenticeship pathway, and summer and evening offerings at the Madison College Truax campus.
  • Provides support for the Rural Health Transformation Grant when needed.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of laboratory operations, equipment maintenance and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of inventory management, procurement processes and budget oversight.
  • Skill in troubleshooting, maintaining and coordinating repairs for lab equipment.
  • Ability to develop and implement lab procedures, safety protocols and operational guidelines.
  • Ability to apply subject matter knowledge relevant to the laboratory setting appropriately.
  • Skill in engaging positively with all populations and communities, contributing to a safe and inclusive learning and work environment.
  • Skill in effectively and respectfully communicating with others.


Minimum Requirements:

Education:

  • Associate Degree in Nursing


Experience:

  • 1-3 years of relevant work experience
  • 2 years as a Nurse
