The Department of Ophthalmology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for a full-time Professor position in the Tenure Track. This position is intended for individuals with a strong commitment to independent research, with a particular focus on the mechanisms of ocular surface homeostasis and chronic inflammatory disease. Applicants must have an M.D and/or Ph.D or equivalent degree.
Position Overview
The successful candidate will have developed an innovative, NIH-funded research program on mechanisms of dry eye including inflammation. They will have both wet lab and clinical components to their research.
Teaching responsibilities may include Mentor trainees, including fellows and graduate students.
Research or scholarship responsibilities may include:
* Establish and sustain an independent, high-impact research program in ophthalmology.
* Secure extramural funding from federal agencies (e.g., NIH), foundations, and industry.
* Collaborate with dry eye researchers in the Department and inflammation researchers at the University
* Publish findings in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
* Mentor trainees, including fellows and graduate students.
Research Environment
The Department of Ophthalmology provides a highly collaborative and interdisciplinary environment, with access to rich clinical data resources and collaborative eye research laboratories. The successful candidate will have opportunities to engage with leading programs in translational science and training of early career scientists.
Faculty Track
This is a tenure track position with a primary emphasis on research. Teaching responsibilities are limited, and no clinical duties are required.
